Seth Rollins (McMahon) walked into the gym like rockstar attending a preschool tea party.
He tossed his head to shake his perfectly long two toned hair into position and placed his hands on his hips, showing off his well shaped arms. His piercing brown eyes cooly assessed our small group of volleyball hopefuls, until he found the girl he wanted.
Moving his body in a way only hot, popular guys seem to know how to do, he weaved through the crowd of adoring fangirls to his target.
"Hi Seth."
"You look great today, Seth."
"Great job at the game, Seth."
Each girl he passed tried to halt his progress, but he quickly dismissed them with a slight nod and a side step around them.
We all knew where he was going, just like we knew everything else about the bad boy shortstop on Canyon High's Football team.
We were all sophomores, and the only sophomore girl Seth Rollins ever acknowledged was his sister, Kaitlyn.
His jaw clenched as he reached her, and several girls sighed, including my best friend, Nikki. I elbowed her slightly to burst her out of her lust filled gaze.
"What?" she whispered to me.
"Stop drooling."
"Puh-lease, Paige, don't act like you're not paying attention to him too."
Ok, maybe a little. But at least I wasn't throwing myself at him like the rest of the girls around me.
The boy was hot. And he knew it.
But he didn't need another adoring fangirl following his every move and throwing herself at him, hoping that just maybe today would be the day he suddenly discovered his undying love for her.
"Whatever."
Seth said what he needed to say to his sister, and his adoring fans huddled into groups whispering about whatever it is they thought they heard.
I turned to Nikki, speaking in my normal voice so she could hear me through our gossiping neighbors.
"Seth Rollins is just another stupid boy."
My timing in life is a lot like my timing in volleyball. Inaccurate and disastrous.
Where seconds before ten teenage girls had been creating a small buzz of gossip, there was now total silence. My words echoed throughout the gym loud enough to ensure no one had missed them. Including him.
Seth paused with one hand on the gym door and slowly swung around.
His face held no expression, but his eyes seemed to bore into me. [Media pic]
Maybe it was the guilty look on my face or maybe it was the blush that covered me from head to toe.
Whatever gave me away, he knew. And he stood there staring at me as if daring me to say it again.
My heart was racing, and I wanted to break the connection between our eyes. I just couldn't, something told me to stand my ground.
Maybe the mortification wouldn't be so bad if I owned up to what had come from my mouth.
I stood a little taller and prayed no one could tell I was a quivering mass of crazy on the inside.
Then I did the unthinkable.
I raised my eyebrows. I silently dared him to confront me.
"Good for you Paige," I heard Kaitlyn's soft voice. "Let him know he's not God's gift to women."
