I spent Sunday afternoon listening to Nikki and AJ go on and on about their amazing weekend with Kaitlyn, shopping, gossiping and swimming in the McMahon's pool. All the things they did, all the new inside jokes they came up with, without me.

Of course, I created my own inside jokes and experiences that I could never tell my friends. Mostly because I wasn't supposed to become friends with Seth. I wasn't supposed to kiss my best friend's crush.

So, while they laughed and shared stories and tried to explain their inside jokes, all I could tell them was that Dean had lost his first race and we'd come home early.

Maybe I should've told them more, but I knew how Nikki would react to my kissing Seth, and I had a strong feeling that AJ would disapprove. Better to keep silent and avoid the drama.

I didn't like keeping secrets from my friends, but once we got back to school on Monday and things went back to normal, my time with Seth would fade into a distant memory. So really, there was no point in making a bigger deal out of it than it was.

A crazy weekend with a 12 hour friendship meant nothing.

Except the stupid boy didn't hold up his end of the bargain.

"Yo Bevis!" Seth called out to me when I passed his cafeteria table to go to my usual spot.

I stopped in my tracks and slowly turned around, raising one eyebrow at him and refusing to say a word. He had never talked to me out of the blue like that, unless he was going to harass me.

Not sure what to expect, I straightened my back and prepared for him to embarrass me in front of his true friends.

But to my surprise, he patted the spot next to him and said, "Come tell the guys what you think our chances of going to state are."

Seth's tone was friendly and inviting. He sounded like he genuinely expected me to go sit and talk sports with him and his friends.

Glancing around the table, I noticed no other girls had joined them yet. Just the most popular, drool-worthy members of the football team sat around Seth. I shrugged and said, "Slim to none, mostly because most of you like to hog the ball. It is a team game, right? So you guys better start acting like a team."

And with that I turned and rushed to my table. I didn't care that I looked like a freak running away from the popular table. Because that's exactly what I was.

"What did Seth say to you?" Nikki asked before I even had a chance to sit down.

Even though he had hurt her feelings and almost wrecked her social status, Nikki still couldn't shake her crush on him. I could see curiosity and a small glimmer of hope in her eyes. She hadn't asked me if Seth had talked about her last weekend, and I was relieved. I knew it would crush her to know that she had never even come up in the hours Seth and I had spent in the car together.

"He made fun of me by asking about football rules."

"Why would he-" Nikki cut her words off mid sentence and smiled, "Seth!! Hi!"

I glanced over my right shoulder. Seth stood next to me holding his tray. He edged his body next to mine on the bench, forcing me to move over and make room for him.

"So, I've been thinking about us," Seth casually said as he popped a french fry into his mouth.

My heart raced in fear. There was no way my friends had missed what he said, and I quickly glanced at the shocked expressions on their faces. I glared at Seth's head, but he was too busy stuffing his face to notice the chaos going on around him.
