Meeting Him

"Jeongguk honey! Can you take out the trash for me please!"

"On it mom!"

Today was the day.

The day he'd approach his new neighbor.

He didn't actually approach him the other day, his social awkward side arose too quickly. He could've just given up, but the mysterious boy spiked his curiosity.

"Oh, and can you please water the plants again?"

Jeongguk let out a mini sigh, "Sure mom."

Snatching up the water can, he walked out into his front yard with hope written all over his face. The plants were slightly parched; roses, daisies, and lilies made up most of the garden. He glanced over at the new neighbors and he couldn't spot anyone despite the moving truck that was still there.

He stalled for awhile, hoping the boy might walk outside again.

Nope.

Disappointed would be a slightly inaccurate word. He never met the boy so there wasn't much to be downed about. Though the possibility of making friends definitely was making him even more eager. Jeongguk head back to his room, pulling out his computer to watch some gaming videos.

A heavy knock sounded from his bedroom door, his father walking in soon after.

"Hey son," Mr. Jeon simply said, watching Jeongguk close his laptop soon after. "What you up to?"

"Nothing much, just watching the usual. There's nothing really interesting on there though, do you want to hang out?" The boy question, smile on his face.

"Not now son, I have some things to do, but one of my coworkers and I thought maybe we could have dinner, so I invited them over. They have a son too maybe you can make a friend."

Jeongguk let out a small smile, nodding his head. It wasn't really the first time his father invited a kid his age over.

Did it lead to Friendship? Not really.

Acquaintance? Not really.

Strangers again? Yes.

Socialization wasn't necessarily a difficult task. In fact, with a good skill set and a relaxed mind, talking can be fairly easy. Although, there was always a thought that you might bore someone out of their skull, or maybe annoy them. Maybe Jeongguk thought he wasn't really interesting, possibly. Boy with no friends? What else could be the reason, right?

"Alright," Jeongguk beamed, but then he remembered something. "Wait Dad, have you talked to the neighbors next door? Do you know if they finished moving in yet?"

Mr. Jeon shrugged, "Not sure, maybe you can head over there, I saw they had a kid that looked your age, unless it's an adult that got a heavy amount of facial surgery. Y'Never know."

"Right..."
