Your POV

Nico and I were training together. It was nearly sunset and people were watching around us. Both of us were tired, hot, and very sweaty, it was gross. My hand was tightly holding my sword in the dominate hand. Nico's black sword was in his.

"Don't look too tired," he laughed.

"Shut up Death Boy, I'll make you visit your dad," I replied back. He whistled and lunged at me. I was a little surprised and quickly dogged, the hilt of his sword touching the hairs on my arm. "Hey!"

He laughed at me, going back into a fighting stance. He lunges again, but this time I'm prepared. I kick out and knock his sword from his hand. He's obviously surprised. I sweep my leg through his legs and he falls with a loud THUMP! on the ground, followed by a low groan. I sit on top of him and press my sword against his neck.

He smiles up at me, sweat trickling down his forehead. Geez, he looks so attractive right now. Mesmerized by his complete and utter beauty, he kicks me off, twists my wrist so my sword is away from my hand and grasped in his instead, and basically switches positions with me. The difference though is his legs are squeezing mine together, making it very difficult for me to move.

I glare at him. "Okay, you win."

He chuckles, proud. He stands up and reaches his hand out. I'm not too happy about the way the fight ended so me, being petty, ignore his hand and get up on my own. Nico raised his eyebrows, noticing this bit of attitude I was giving off.

Everyone around us had already left one by one. Some were disappointed with my lose. Others were happy with it, those who were cheering on for Nico.

I walked to a nearby bench and sit down, removing the bandages I had wrapped around my hands to keep my hands somewhat protected. Nico came by holding a towel around his neck and sat next to me, ruffling the towel through his wet, sweaty hair. I turn to him, mainly to glare at him, expressing my unhappiness to defeat, but am instead met with his obsidian eyes. His stare is solid, and he's watching me, reading my expression. I can see the water droplets drop from his hair as he brushes it out with his fingers, making my body go weak.

I quickly grab the towel and shove it into his face. He yelps, surprised at my actions. "What the hell?!?!"

"You are so frustrating! I am never practicing with you again!" I shouted, my hand till clamped onto his face with the white towel being the only thing keeping it from directly contacting his skin. "How on earth am I supposed to concentrate with you looking at me like that?! How am I supposed to concentrate with you!?  You look- you look too good to practice with you! I'm literally acting the way teachers think boys are acting when a girl reveals her shoulders or her collarbones. You're the shoulder right now! So cover up, Di Angelo!"

After just realizing what I said, I turn bright red. Nico slowly removes the towel from his face and grabs my hand. "So, you think I'm distracting you from training well because... I look good?"

I'm so red and so hot, there's practically smoke coming from my ears. "I-"

"Want to get some McDonalds?" he bursts out.

Partially thankful, partially surprised, I ask, "Um, sure. Are we allowed to just leave?"

"No, we should ask Chiron, but Mr. D is a god, so he'll know," Nico reassures.

I chuckle a little and together we head back to his cabin. I steal his clothes and quickly shower. He does the same, instead using his own clothing, and we meet back at Thalia's Pine Tree. I'm dressed in a pair of his basketball shorts and a large hoodie with a skull on it. He's wearing something similar, instead his pairs his hoodie with ripped jeans.

"I'm scared, not gonna lie," I said. Nico turns to me and smiles, grabbing my hand gently. That look. Again. "What're you-"

"We're gonna shadow travel, okay?" Nico replied. He pulls me closer to his body. Dark chocolate. Why does he smell like dark chocolate? "Okay, close your eyes and don't let go, alright?"

I nod into his chest and shut my eyes tightly. Soon, I feel cold. I hear whispers teasing me to join them. I hold onto Nico a little tighter, kind of scared. I didn't realize we were here until finally Nico pulled me away. I didn't open my eyes until I felt his cool hands on my cheeks. He was smiling at me.

"We're here," he laughed. "Sorry, was that scary?"

"It was," I replied. "But you smiling makes up for it."

He turns slightly red and turns away from me, removing his hands from my face and stuffing them into his pockets. He turns towards the McDonalds we were in front of.

"So, uh, what do you want? I'm paying," Nico said, avoiding eye contact.

"Um, nuggets and fries," I replied, stealing a hand from his pocket and grasping it gently with my own. "A classic Y/N order, you know?"

Nico chuckles slightly and pulls me inside the McDonalds. By the time the food is done and we're sitting down a table in the far corner, it's night time. There is practically no one in the McDonalds instead of the workers. Nico is munching on a Big Mac, and I'm scooping up (sauce) onto my nugget.

"What should we do tomorrow?" Nico asks suddenly.

"Hm? Uh... not sure," I replied. "Why do you ask?"

He stares blankly at my face. I look back confused and I take a bite into two fries. "Do you not remember what tomorrow is?"

"Uh..." I think, hoping it wasn't our anniversary. Wow, almost a year old dating. But I'm not sure. "What's tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow is your birthday," he replied, smiling, probably laughing at the fact that I forgot my own birthday.

"Oh, that's tomorrow?" I replied, laughing and looking down at my fries. In all honesty, my birthday was something I was never fond of. On the day I was born, my biological parents decided it was best that I was sent away to an orphanage. The ladies there told me that it was because I was an accident. They didn't want the burden of taking care of a child. "I didn't realize."

"Is something wrong?" Nico asked, noticing my change of behavior.

"You know how I feel about my birthday, Neeks," I replied. I tried averting my eyes from his as much as possible. I can't look someone in the eye when I'm uncomfortable. It only makes me feel worse.

Nico gets up and sits next to me, causing me to look up. He makes me put down the drink I had just gotten from the table and pulls me into a hug. The sudden embrace startles me a bit, but then I get the familiar dark chocolate smell from earlier. My body relaxes and I close my eyes, leaning more into his warm, yet cold arms.

"I want to make you feel special because if you hadn't been born," Nico started, pulling me away but keeping his hands on my waist, eyes connected with mine, "I don't know what I would be doing with my life right now."

His eyes switch occasionally from my eyes to my lips, making my heart skip a beat each time.

"Nico?" I whispered.

"Mm?" Nico brings one hand to my cheek. The arm wrapped around my waist pulls me closer.

"Are you going to kiss me or not?" I ask, my voice so low that only he can hear it.

He chuckles a bit and connects his lips with mine. My eyes are closed, but I feel like I see fireworks. His soft lips even tasted like dark chocolate. His hand on my face caressed it so gently, it felt like a pillow. His thumb brushed up and down my cheek. I reached up and put both of mine on either side of his face, deepening our kiss. I could feel his lips turn up with a smile.

Finally, he pulls away. "You taste like McDonald's french fries."

I laugh, and so does he. I lean my head on his shoulder. They bounce a little with each giggle.

"Which is great, cause I love McDonald's french fries," he adds.
