You checked the time on your watch, only ten minutes until the gates closed. You were still deep in section 2, getting carried away running around corners and running up and down corridors. But still, you didn't waste your time and ran back through where you came this morning. You just hoped you didn't worry anyone too much by being late. Although you wouldn't have been surprised if you got another lecture from Alby and Minho about making it back to the Glade on time.
You were mostly worried about your best friend Gally though. You knew how anxious he got when you were cutting it a little too close. He didn't want you to be a runner in the first place. He pushed you to be a med-jack or builder, or really any job other than a runner. But you were stubborn, and complained enough to him and Alby that they finally let you go. That didn't mean he was any less anxious when you left in the morning. He trusted you, and knew you could take care of yourself. But throughout the day he couldn't help but worry about you possibly getting stung by a griever, or never coming back at all.
You turned a few more corners until you reached the familiar hall that led you straight home. The sky was already turning yellow, and you didn't hesitate one more minute getting back. In the distance, right in the centre of the open walls, you saw a tall figure look up, already knowing exactly who it was from a mile away.
You ran through the entrance and straight to his side with an elated face. You couldn't wait to tell him everything you saw, even if it was pretty much the same as the day before and the day before that. But he would still patiently listen to you, giving you one hundred percent of his attention.
As you walked up to him, your smile quickly faded. He didn't seem very happy to see you.
You stood in silence with him, already knowing why he was upset, "I'm sorry..." you reached for his hand, and he took it but not with much enthusiasm
Gally looked down at his feet, his eyes slowly tracing back up to you, "How many times do we have to ask you to come back on time?" he said sternly, carefully squeezing your hand a bit.
"I just...I lost track of time."
"You always cut it way too close, Y/N." The rumble of the walls startled the two of you. Gally stepped back, pulling you with him. He held your hand tighter as you both watched the massive gears grind and the massive doors slowly touch each other, blocking off the maze for the night. Gally's voice subtly shook, "If you'd been any later..."
"I know," You interrupted and met his sorrow eyes, "I promise I won't do it again. I hate worrying you like this Gal." Gally didn't respond, because he knew what you said was genuine, but he also knew that you wouldn't be able to pull through with your promise. The same words had come out of your mouth a thousand times before, but all he could do was accept the fact that he would feel just as anxious the next day, and the next.
"Come on," Gally wrapped one arm around your shoulder, "we've got a bonfire to get to." With you under his embrace, the two of you walked to the giant fire that had just been lit to welcome the Glade's new greenie.
You slipped out of his grasp, which hurt him slightly, "I'll meet you there, I gotta change I feel disgusting."

You sat beside Gally with some of your guys' friends. You enjoyed these kinds of nights, but the fights and overly loud boys weren't really your scene. You were happy just talking with Gally and your friends around a smaller campfire.
You sat next to your best friend, but every now and then you'd subtly inch closer to him, sometimes without even realizing. You and him were close, basically inseparable, but were just friends. You didn't usually think to hard about it, but you did like him. You weren't desperate to be an item, but the thought of you being his and him being yours wasn't something you completely objected.
Gally on the other hand was nearly in love with you. He never said anything, but his feelings weren't exactly inconspicuous either. He wanted to say something, but he knew the rules that Alby had put in place about relationships and didn't want to break those. He tried to be content with just admiring you from afar, but he couldn't help but want you. However rules were rules. Sometimes he would almost consider working up the courage to just kiss you when you got back from the maze. But he didn't want to make it awkward or ruin anything. After you all escape, he would tell himself, he would tell you.
Gally and the other boys around you kept talking, but you already started zoning out a while ago. Running that day had made you more tired than usual and you were ready to go to bed, but it was way to early in the night to get up and leave. You thought you heard someone mention a fight in the circle, but you were too lazy to get up and see it. You felt yourself slowly start to tip over, and rest on something strong and comforting, Gally's shoulder.
"Are you guys gonna stay here?" One kid asked. You couldn't tell who it was since your eyes were half open.
"I think so," a comforting voice answered, "you okay?"
The other boys walked over to watch the fight. It took you a second to realize Gally's question was directed at you, "Oh, yeah. Just tired." You yawned. Already more than half asleep, you nuzzled your face into his arm a little bit more, taking in his mahogany scent.
Gally looked down at you, his cheeks fading into a sweet pink. He admired your adorable sleeping face while you took a few gentle breaths. Within seconds, you'd completely passed out against him. His stomach grew warm and spun like a top. He wanted to hold you and keep you safe, making you as comfortable as possible while you slept, but he didn't dare move you from your cute position.
"What's going on over here?" Minho asked, startling Gally by sneaking up behind him. He was obviously drunk.
"She just got tired," Gally whispered.
Minho sat down on a log across from you two. He kept his drink in hand while his eyes moved back and forth between you and Gally, "You're enjoying this, aren't you?" He smirked while sipping from his glass.
Gally somehow managed to blush a deeper shade of red, "No! No, I just-" He started to gently pull away from you. He didn't want to wake you up, but he knew he'd never hear the end of it from his friends and or Alby, and was afraid rumours about you would spread like wildfire.
He lifted your head gently, but you moved forward and ended up nuzzling your face deeper into his chest, still asleep. Your hand sluggishly placed itself on his thigh. Still carrying a surprised look on his face, Gally let you lean into him and he carefully wrapped his strong arms around you.
"I say go for it." Minho interrupted
"Huh?"
The drunk runner rolled his eyes, "Tell her you like her, man. It's already obvious!"
Gally hushed him, partially because he didn't want you to wake up, but he was also afraid that you, or others, could hear him.
"Alby can see how happy you make eachother," he continued, "I'm sure he'd allow it."
Gally glanced back down at you and brushed fallen strands of hair away from your face. It was then he finally decided, that he would tell you tomorrow.
——I had this whole thing written weeks ago but completely forgot to actually post it and for that I apologize.
