Living in a crammed car that has dodgy heating and seats that don't recline is really becoming a pain in the neck. Literally. Apparently Y/N didn't know how shitty her ex boyfriend's car is, it's a real piece of work. Also, having to buy gas every other day is exhausting, especially for Y/N having to make these trips as Toby is too afraid to leave the car and be in the "public eye" as he likes to say. The public eye at the gas station is really a couple of pervy old geezers and maybe a crackhead or two. Toby acknowledges that he really should take responsibility and do these tasks for Y/N, but he's looking out for her while she does them. No one is gonna touch her.

After a nearly a month of this same-shit-everyday routine, nothing shady has ever happened to them. Not even at the gas station. Two nights ago, they had to make a quick bathroom stop where they had a strange encounter. Y/N really had to pee and he was waiting for her a few feet from the women's restroom when some scraggy junkie approached him. At first, she seemed like one of those hat-in-hand homeless ladies who would pine for some spare change (that he didn't even have to give) until she got on her knees and tried to yank his jeans down. He rushed out of there, grabbing Y/N as she exited the washroom and returned to the car. He wasn't trying to catch the clap from some bug-eyed slut. Y/N really got a laugh out of that story all the while Toby still felt grimy.

At the moment, they're sitting in the motionless car, listening to the radio. Toby turns to Y/N and takes in her appearance. She wore a winter jacket, but left it open revealing a grey sweatshirt underneath. Around her neck is a locket he's never noticed before. "I like your necklace."

"Wanna see something cool? It turns into a coke spoon." She says, undoing the little locket and revealing that it does in fact have a little spoon inside. "Trevor bought it for our one month. If it was just like any other locket, I would have thrown it away the night back at the hotel."

Hours passed and now they're driving up a dirt road, trying to find the city again. It's getting dark, about 7:30pm and they're looking for nothing in particular. With plenty of gas in the tank, they figure they otta find themselves some fun. When the trees clear, they spot many cars, parked and facing a large projection. It's like one of those retro drive in movie theatres. They decide they would stay and see what was playing. They park, unfortunately, near the back and wouldn't be seeing the screen as well, but they'll take it after not having watched something like this in forever. The movie starts, some film called "Evil Dead" or something - Toby wasn't really paying attention to the beginning because Y/N left the car, wondering between the rows before leaving his sight. 10 minutes later, she comes back with a bag of popcorn, dropping it on Toby's lap.

The movie is almost over and Toby and Y/N are both half asleep, melting into each other with the popcorn long gone. Toby catches himself drifting, and sits up before looking at Y/N. She looks a little frightened by the grotesque ending. Toby feels unfazed. His hand falls onto her thigh, giving it a squeeze. Not in a weird way, just to be comforting. He hopes that's the way Y/N saw it, and she did, placing her hand over his and holding it tightly.

Some of the scenes in the movie made Toby uneasy, pulling him into hallucinations left and right. Those were the least of his concerns. He saw him, lurking over the tree line. His body started to elongate and long appendages began sprouting out from behind his back. He looks like a charred tree after a fire, leaves gone and the bark is crispy and black. Although it's winter, no tree looks like that. He couldn't just pass it off as his eyes playing tricks on him. He is real and he is watching. Always watches. No eyes. Don't look. It takes you.

"Toby?" Y/N pulls him out of his trance, and he looks away from the forest, over to the beauty on his right. She looked really pretty tonight, he noticed. He never really thought of Y/N in that way until now. The way she looked at Toby made his head spin. She looked like she really cared for him. "You alright? The movie is over." She whispers.

Toby just nods, and starts to drive off, wanting to leave the area pronto. He keeps one hand in Y/N's while the other is on the steering wheel.

A/N: heyy this is just a little chapter to show the progression of their relationship and how they are growing closer. From Toby's perspective we see that he is starting to see yn in a way he hadn't before, in a new light. Some drama is coming in the next few chapters so stay tuned.
