The Division Agent

Chapter 5

Jessica Kandel was falling to the floor. Her collegues were screaming. Then the Riker hit the floor. He was dead. It was a clean headshot. The blood that was coming out of his head was coloring the white tales a deep red. I looked over to my left where John just stood up and was saluting me in a friendly manner. I noded in thanks. He saved the day. Again.

I walked over to Kandel. „Jessica Kandel? My name is Tess Miller. I am a Division Agent. We were sent to get you and your collegues back to the base." I helped here up. She didn't really seemed to be faced by the things that just happened. „I know that you are a Division Agent, thank you for saving us." In the mean time John came into the room and checked the rest of the medical staff for injuries. They all seemed to be fine. A little bit shaken but in one piece.

„Division Agent Miller here. We found Kandel and her team. They are all breathing and there are no signs of major injuries. Requesting a pick up for them. Do you copy?" I said through my earpiece. I am definetely not walking with them back to the base. That would be as close to suicide as it can get.

„Copy. Here is Lau. That are finally some great news. But I have some bad ones for you. We can't sent a heli. The roof is filled with Rikers with heavy artillery. You need to clear the roof first. And I suggest you do it fast. Our JTF patrol detected a hord of Rikers moving into your direction. They are not really happy that you've broken into their base. Report back when the roof is clear. Over."

I turned around and looked at John with a raised eyebrow. „It was too easy" He said while rolling his eyes. The staff members looked at us confused. „What's the matter?" asked Kandel. „We need to clear the roof befor we can get you out of here. Keep moving." John explained while he took the lead and I took the back.

We reached the staircase that leads to the roof. „Alright, you stay here and only come upstairs when we say so." I said befor I followed John on the roof. „I start the scan" I said while scanning the area. It wasn't hard to hear the enemys. They were shooting at the heli that was circling the roof.

The scan fisihed and detected 11 enemies. „ From front to back?" I asked John. „You take the right, I take the left." He said while noding. We positioned ourselves and I took out my searcher mine. „In position" I said through the earpiece. „Same." I heard. I put the mine down on the floor and was waiting for it to automatically mark it's targets. Then it started to roll. Not shortly after that there was a loud explosion and from 11 enemys, only were 8 left.

We started to fire at the remaining Rikers but some of them had bombs with tear gas and one of them had a MG 11. I emptied one magazine after the other, trying to avoid being hit. I killed about two more rikers when I had to take cover because the MG 11 was firing at me.

Suddenly I heard the sound of metal hitting stone next to me. I couldn't do anything. The bomb exploded and I was in the middle of a cloud made out of tear gas.

I coughed and changed my position to get as far away from the cloud as possible without leaving my cover. „Are you alright?" came Johns voice over the earpiece.

My breathing was heavy and my eyes watered like I just cut 20 onions. „I am alive."

I tried to breath.

„That's what matters" I answered him. My breathing got more steady and I saw movement on my right side. I knew that John was on my left side so I shot the black mass on my right.

„Alright, only the MG 11 is left. I'm taking care of that. Just shoot above the cover to distract him." John said. I turned around so my back was leaning against the cover and I was holding the weapon over my head. I started shooting. I had no idea what or where I shot but after a while the MG stopped. „Done?" I asked John. „Done" I heard John say from behind my cover. „Go get Kandel. I'll- Jesus Tess! You look horrible!" I already closed my eyes to stop the burning feeling. „Oh really? I though I'd try this new beauty treatment called 'tear gas'. Does it work?" I asked him with a raspy voice. „I liked you better without the halloween look. Just stay there. I handle it." said John and walked away. I could hear him talking over the earpiece. „As if I could see where I would go" I mumbled to myself.

Not long after that a door opened. I could hear the heli and feel the not so gentle breeze that it created. Then I heard Johns voice screaming over the noice „I'll carry you. Hold on!".

He carried me to the heli and set me down on the floor. He was sitting behind me, his right arm was holding me tight. Suddenly I could hear the voice of Kandel. „Tess, can you hear me?" She asked. I gave her a smug grin. „I am blind not deaf." She carefully opened one of my eyes and looked at it. It was like I was underwater. „Ok. I can't detect any damage that could be permanently. Does anyone has water?... Alright. I am going to pour this over your eyes now. Can you please open them?" I carefully opened my eyes and the cold water felt like I was in heaven. My vision started to clear up. „It's getting better now, thanks." I said.

We were dropped of at the base. I was for sure going to be the talk of the week.
