Ivanna had been sitting on her window seat in her large bedroom in the Malfoy Manor, watching the birds fly past the window and listening to the soft whistling of the wind, when an old but precious memory of her mother crossed her mind. Her mother, the woman who had taught her a Slug-Vomiting charm that she had pulled on her father once or twice over the years, almost getting herself killed.
While reminiscing on the thoughts of her mother and all of the times she'd just about escaped death by the skin of her teeth, her mood became low and gloomy and tears began falling down her cheeks when one particular memory starting playing through her mind. The night her mother died.
"Ivanna, please. Your nine years old, those thick books aren't going to help you and I doubt you'll remember anything from it in two years time!" Amara said with a laugh, whilst trying to pull 'Hogwarts: A History' out from her daughters grasp.
"Mother please! Just one more chapter!" Ivanna whined in hope that her mother would give in and let her continue reading. Ivanna had always had a passion for reading and learning, even from a young age.
"Alright, fine! One more chapter and then come and help me with dinner!" Her mother said smiling at her before leaving the room.
Ivanna finished reading and headed downstairs into the kitchen of The Riddle House to see her mother cooking at the stove and her father sat at the table with this weeks 'Daily Prophet' with the headline 'Ministry Of Magic Deploys Aurors Europe-Wide' clamped between his palms and fingertips. Tom didn't seem remotely interested in what he was reading considering he hadn't turned the page in twenty-five minutes, every now and again scanning the page briefly as if he was hoping it would change into something more interesting.
Ivanna and her mother finished cooking, "Dinner's ready!" She called to Tom, who had moved to sit in the living room.
Her father tucked into the meal, and with the first mouthful he began yelling, "MERLIN! WHAT IS THIS? WOULD SOMEONE CARE TO EXPLAIN WHAT I JUST PUT IN MY MOUTH?" When Ivanna was younger she would have flinched at him yelling but now her and Amara were both used to his insults and hurtful words.
