┌────── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──────┐

Marilyn and Marvolo Gaunt were by no means your average people, nor were they your average witch or wizard, especially Marilyn. The Gaunt twins were first of all two of the three remaining descendants of Salazar Slytherin, both being parselmouthes. Marilyn was even odder than her twin. When she was six, she had wandered too far off and fallen prey to a killing curse. She died that day and was dead for fifteen minutes before she woke up again.

After that day, she was even more different than she already was. She could see ghosts and she could sense death. She avoided physical contact with people because even the smaller brush of hands was enough for her to see the death of the other person, exactly how it would happen. Over the years, she had managed to learn how to control it, so she only ever saw the deaths if her mental barriers weren't up and she wasn't prepared. She was always prepared.

Her twin brother, Marvolo, their guardian Aberforth, and Albus Dumbledore were the only people who knew of her abilities, or curse as she liked to call it. After what happened, she grew more closed off and rarely smiled. The only people she really talked to were Marvolo, Aberforth, and occasionally Albus Dumbledore when he came to see them.

The Dumbledore brothers were the only people besides themselves who knew of their heritage and they definitely intended to keep it that way. Neither twin wanted to be accused of siding with Voldemort, or Tom Riddle as they both called him. He was technically their second cousin, but it wasn't like they had ever met him and they weren't planning on doing so.

Marilyn had gone to Hogwarts for five, going on six, years and she had still yet to have a proper conversation with anyone outside of Marvolo, Dumbledore, or the professors while in school. Her face remained carefully blank and her demeanour unapproachable.

Somehow, despite both Gaunt siblings being descendants of Salizar Slytherin, neither of them was actually in the house of the snake. Marilyn was in Ravenclaw, while Marvolo was in Gryffindor. Marvolo was much more social than Marilyn and he was a part of the pranking trio that was the Weasley twins and himself. Despite being rather popular, he made time for Marilyn whenever she needed him and was fiercely protective over her, not that she couldn't handle herself.

And somehow, throughout their five years going to Hogwarts, no one had managed to notice that they went by their first names and first names only. No one but the professors even knew their last name and they only ever called the twins by their first names in class or anywhere else.

The previous year, Hogwarts had been the host for the Triwizard Tournament, which definitely ended on a terrible note. Cedric Diggory had died, Harry Potter had been traumatized, and Lord Voldemort had returned. Marvolo and Marilyn were not happy about that. They were among the only people in the wizarding world who believed Harry Potter when he appeared in front of that maze screaming about how Voldemort was back and had murdered Cedric.

Then again, they had their own sources, namely Marilyn. She had felt it the moment her cousin had returned. She could sense a lot of things in regards to death, and Tom Riddle returning from the in-between state he was in was the largest disturbance she had felt in a long time.

Marilyn was not exactly excited for her sixth year, but she hadn't exactly been excited for any of the others either, so that wasn't much of a change. She did know that the year was going to be different and she could already tell it wasn't going to be a good different.

To say the least, Marilyn Gaunt was not pleased with how her sixth year was starting out.
