I was looking him in the eye and I knew in that moment that I wouldn't be able to shoot him. He grinned viciously and flicked out his knife.
"Don't even try that, I promise you I'll shoot." even I could hear the shake in my voice.
"Dude, you wouldn't touch me and I know it, you're too pathetic for that." he smiled again, and it amazed me that something deemed to be so warm could be that icy.
I took a step forward, pointing the gun at his gut. "Don't underestimate me."
He laughed again. "Sure." and he flicked the knife at Ash, who ducked quickly but still got a nick by the knife on the shoulder.
"Shoot the goddamn kid!" Paul yelled as he heard Ash yell out.
I pointed the gun down and pulled the trigger, shooting the ground next to his foot.
"Trying to scare me?"
No, I was trying to hit your foot. I thought.
I fired again and this time the boy crumpled, a look of shock plastered across his face.
"Took your time." Paul was behind me, frowning. "Please can you hold that group off, I just need to-"
A girl came up behind him and he swiped backwards, enlarging his hand as he did so so that there wasn't any chance he would miss. The hand thumped her in the stomach and she flew away, literally flew.
I obviously wasn't sexist or anything but I found it hard to hit a girl, and it disturbed me a bit to see how easily Paul hit that girl, especially since he was dating Ash.
I was distracted from my thoughts by another wave of P.E.F spirituses, some of them already healed from the previous fight. That was a big disadvantage for us, since we still couldn't heal and they were coming back at us as fast as we were hurrying them and getting injured.
"Retreat!" A voice yelled, belonging to our commander, one of the older kids. I think he was called Leo or something. "Waterfall, now, people."
I felt someone grab me round the waist and hoist me up into the air, and I was stunned for a moment until I saw what was going on below me. Lights were fighting the opposing team to keep certain places light and others dark in order to blind the other team, but i had enough light to see. Earths were raising the earth in front of the oncoming spirituses into mini hills and other air spirituses were lifting waters into the air above it, dodging the various things being shot at them. I joined the waters as they began to shoot water at the hills, causing a flume of water to go rumbling down at them.
I saw the horrified looks on their faces as the water barrelled towards them, and I felt an ounce of satisfaction. A few shot up into the air to counter-attack us, and others dragged friends up and back out of the way. Most stood frozen and were swept away by the waves of water.
"You new to this?" The guy holding me said, and I suddenly felt l like this situation was a bit awkward.
"Uh... yeah, why?"
"Because you practically crapped yourself when I picked you up and you appear to be feeling a bit uncomfortable, considering that you just tensed up."
I laughed, stopping the flow of water as I noticed everyone else was doing the same. "Yeah, I got here today."
"Pay attention then." I could hear the smile in his voice, it was probably amusing watching me struggle to copy everyone else without looking down - we were pretty high up.
"DROP!" the boy holding me obeyed the command and we plummeted towards the ground, pulling up at the last second.
When we were safely back on the ground, we were not given any chance to recover, immediately pushed away and told to run by the next load of people who were taking over from us. I was surprised our duty was over already, to be honest, the time had flown.
