Daveigh's POV
Hearth did not take it well. We proposed the idea at a meeting that included Hearth, Ace, Felix, Malakai, Theia, Kade, Haven and Blake, Finn, Ash, and myself. We left the other soldiers and recruits to their own devices either to train or build up their strength.
"I thought you said you could do this," Hearth said angrily, pointing a finger at me.
"We have no choice but to kill him," Haven spoke up, her Irish accent thick. Her and her brother were close, almost inseparable. They were fierce, having been shoved into the war at such a young age, and for so long. Most importantly, they would die for each other. "He forced us into war. I'll kill him myself if you can't."
I pursed my lips. "I want Dare off the throne, and I want to contain him. But he is still my best friend, as much as I may hate to admit it right now. He may have treated you all horribly, but Ash and I know a side of him that you don't. You can understand why I don't want to kill him. I am in full support of you getting him off the throne and reinstating someone new, but you leave his life in my hands, do you understand me?"
"Enough of this," Blake snapped. "You're talking nonsense, Daveigh. He has to die."
"Listen here, I am about as close with him as you two are with each other. By the looks of it, you are practically joined at the hip. So we can imprison him, torture him, whatever you want, as long as he stays alive. And if either one of you kills him, I'll kill the other just to make you feel that pain."
"Enough, Miss Harte." Hearth's loud voice ceased our arguing. "King Dare's life will be left in your hands. But do not mistake this for weakness. We will bring him back here and torture him until he feels everything he did to us. It's what he deserves."
I let out a breath, relaxing. Ash squeezed my hand tightly, giving me a small smile. We had succeeded so far. But like I promised, if one of the Lockwood twins got too out of hand, I would kill one of them. I may have been on a 'save as many people as possible' mission, but that wouldn't stop me. If they took my best friend away from me, I would take theirs.

We were travelling again. We went back to Lochlea to steal more weapons from a store that the others had supposedly been to already. I found out my brother got shot and I almost killed him. He told me that his shooter was already dead, so that refrained me from killing her.
Haven and Blake were not only soldiers, but thieves as well, so they got in and out pretty easily. I never had time for thieving, what with spending all of my time with Dare, but if I hadn't been otherwise occupied I'm sure I would have taken it up.
I was still jumpy, even after everyone had proved themselves—for the most part—trustworthy. I didn't like things on my wrists or ankles. Whenever Ash held my hand he was careful about that, which I appreciated.
I was forced to stay on the plane while the Lockwood twins, Felix, and Theia went to steal some weapons. They physically did not let me leave.
"People are looking for you!" Ace hissed. "You may not have heard, but the king has 'wanted' posters with your picture all over. Everybody knows you. And on top of that, he's offering a huge reward to whoever brings you back to him."
"I'm not an invalid." I scowled, sitting down in my seat.
"Right now you are," he snapped, angrily walking away. Self-righteous piece of shit.
"Hey," Ash said softly, wrapping me in his arms. "What are you thinking about?"
"Everything," I said quietly. "And nothing. I don't know."
