Malakai's POV

Daveigh was here. I stood in the crowd, staring at my sister. She was clad in orange, as usual, and she looked frail.

Ace looked like he wanted to kill her when she gave her speech, but we managed to calm him down. It was obvious that it was fake, that she was forced to say it. Those who didn't know my sister would believe it, but that is exactly what King Dare wanted.

"We have to get her out," Ash murmured. Him, Ace, Theia, and I were in the crowd watching. The others had stayed on the plane incase of an emergency. We had watched all Daveigh's other speeches on TV but she happened to be in the same place as us at the same time so we decided to attend this one in person.

"It's our only shot. If we lose her now, she's gone forever," Theia agreed.

"How should we do that?" I asked. Her and King Dare traveled with countless guards. There was no way it would be easy to get her away from them.

"Cause a scene," Ash suggested. "Provide a distraction."

"She's too heavily guarded," Ace muttered.

"We can fly the plane up," Felix suggested, his voice buzzing in my ear. Everyone was on comms so we could all communicate with each other. "That'll distract them enough for you guys to grab her and run. She'll be confused, just don't let her talk."

"I'll tie her down if I have to." Ace sounded far too willing to do that.

"Engine starting in three..." Felix counted down to one, and I could almost hear the engine roar from where the plane was parked. Soon enough, it was over our heads and we were moving to the front of the crowd. People screamed, and King Dare's guards took their stances. Guns fired toward us and the plane. I grabbed my sister, shoving a jacket on to her shoulders so she would be less recognizable. Her dress was bright orange, and that would be difficult to hide.

"Don't you dare!" a voice seethed from behind us.

"Go," I urged. Theia took Daveigh's hand, but King Dare wasn't in the mood to stop and chat with me.

"Give her back to me!" he roared, grabbing both my sisters.

Daveigh's POV

They were here. Well, some of them were. I hoped everyone else was safe back in Geteron. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of time to think about that. Theia was trying to drag me along while Dare fought her off.

"I'm a soldier, King," Theia spat. "You don't want to do this."

He was using mind control. Theia released my arm, and gently pushed me toward Dare, who held me tightly. "No!" Malakai shouted, grabbing me. Everyone was too caught off guard to keep me close to them. I was tossed back and forth between people, finally ending up in Ace's arms.

"Greetings." He nodded toward me.

"Get me out of here," I pleaded.

"Everybody stop!" Dare's voice was loud and clear. The villagers froze at his command, and so did we. He was getting stronger, just like me. "Give Daveigh back to me, now." Ace let me go, and Dare resumed holding me by the shoulders. He ran his fingers through my dark hair, and held me close.

"You're an ass," a voice seethed. It was Ash.

"That's where you got off to," Dare mused. "So you picked her over me?"

"I would do it over and over again, Dare. You're a monster." Ash was angry, I could tell. All I wanted to do was hug him, but Dare held me too tightly, and my mind was a slave to him. He wanted me to stay put, so I did.

"I'll be taking Daveigh back with me," he announced. "She belongs at the palace with me. If any of you try to come for her again, I will kill all of you."

I was too weak to fight, but that didn't mean they were. Everyone broke free of Dare's mind control, and ushered me away from him. He fought, but only he had powers. His guards didn't, which made us more powerful.

He chased me. I ran, but he was faster. He was always faster. Dare tackled me, and pulled out a device that I had never seen before in my life. He held it to my throat, and it burned. I let out a cry, and soon enough it was over. "You'll be mine one day," he said softly.

Everything went black.
