The Chipettes looked at one another, exchanging mischievous smirks. I felt like I had just made a deal with the devil.
"Perfect," Brittany said, staring at me intently.
I began walking back towards the girls.
"I hope you know that I have a lot of questions about this little arrangement."
Brittany smiled. "And we may have a few answers."
I made it back over to the girls and crossed my arms over my chest.
"So, first of all, who is this poor guy whose heart I'll supposedly be breaking?"
The girls looked at each other and then looked back at me.
"Simon Seville," they all said together.
Wait. Simon Seville? I know him! Not just because he's a member of The Chipmunks. Let me explain.
So if you'll try to remember, yesterday I told you that my first day at West Eastman was uneventful. For the most part...
Yesterday, 3rd period, science class
I returned to my desk after being awkwardly introduced to the class. The tardy bell was just about to ring, and the door flew open.
In walked Simon Seville, who I automatically recognized from The Chipmunks. He was COMPLETELY out of breath.
"Sorry... Ms. Higgins... I was upstairs... in... the computer lab," he said taking deep breaths between words.
"That's quite alright, Simon. You've never been tardy a day in your life, so I didn't expect you to start today," Ms. Higgins laughed.
He wiped his forehead in relief, and his shoulders lowered, as he stopped tensing up.
I couldn't help but smile at his uptight demeanor. Who would've thought that a pop star would be such a worry wart.
He began making his way to the back of the class, when a boy in a letterman jacket stuck his foot out, tripping Simon and causing the books that he had been holding in his hands to go flying. He hit the ground with a thud.
The whole class began laughing, and I could hardly look at the scene unfolding.
Although I had been captain of the cheer team and very popular at my old school, I NEVER bullied anyone and always despised people that did.
"Ah man.. not again," Simon groaned as he continued lying on the ground.
He collected his books and stood up, looking very embarrassed as Ms. Higgins tried to settle the class down.
Simon was squinting his eyes as he began to search the ground.
What in the world was he looking fo-
I soon realized exactly what he was looking for when I looked at the ground and saw that his glasses had flown off and landed right at my feet.
I stared at them for a minute, hoping that he would just make his way over to me and be able to find them himself.
A few minutes had gone by and he was still looking, and I didn't want him to continue to embarrass himself in front of the class. So, I began reaching for the glasses, but as I grabbed them, I felt my hand touch someone else's. I looked up to meet Simon's gaze.
Just as I was about to say something, he quickly grabbed his glasses, put his head down, mumbling something under his breath, and quickly walked to his desk.
I turned around and watched him as he listened to Ms. Higgins ramble on about white blood cells and wrote passionately in his notebook.
I couldn't help but feel a pang in my heart as I realized that no matter how popular The Chipmunks' music may be, at West Eastman Simon Seville was just a nerd.
