A Weird, but Beautiful Place

Luz Noceda had always been different. And she'd always known that, too. She used to be the weirdo of her school. During biology, others would do presentations on the transformations of a caterpillar to a butterfly, while Luz would show how dragons are created.

They would call her more names than you could even imagine. Eccentric. Weirdo. And the worst word of all. Freak.

As a result of her, "unacceptable behavior," she was constantly sent to her principal's office. Time after time. Sometimes, she wondered why she couldn't just be average. Just the same as any other 14-year-old.

She couldn't help but remember her most recent day on Earth, when her former school chief assigned her to Box Camp. That's right. Camp in a box. Luz didn't know why it seemed like her principal wanted her in such a small space, shut out from the world. And what was even more surprising to her is, her mother was okay with it, and, moreover, excited about it.

She saw it as an opportunity for her daughter to make friends. But Luz considered it as only another reminder of how she wasn't the same as anyone else.

Then, the little owl. That little, cute, adorable owl, or as Luz had put it, brought her to one of the most extraordinary places. Besides the heavens, that is. The Boiling Isles.

It was a place that she had always dreamed of, and at the same time, never thought was real.

Witches and goblins and creatures that she'd always believed that somehow existed. She finally discovered a place where she felt "normal." Not because that she'd changed, but the world around her seemed to share her same interests with glee.

It was confident, and unapologetic of being itself. And, throughout the process, Luz found herself beginning to obtain similar traits.

Although all of the Boiling Isles was like a dream, there was one place that she has grown a love for the most: The Owl House. A big, wood, weird house that was guarded by Luz's owl ally, Hooty. Most importantly, it was also the place where she met her best friends of all.

One was King, the so-called, "King of Demons," or in other words, the cutest little thing on Earth.

Secondly, there was Eda, the Greatest Witch of the Boiling Isles, itself. She had become somewhat of a motherly figure to Luz.

At first, she wanted nothing more than to leave this place, only to come back to her home. It was the only thing that she'd ever known. But then, she discovered how special this place really was. At first glance, it looked like a disgusting, gross, horrific place. But when you really look closely, with an open mind, you can see what the grey rock of mud really is inside: beautiful.

Luz sometimes wondered why she'd stayed. Why did she decide to stay in a place that she was in for less than a day?

Because of one thing, and one thing only: everyone was different. Whether it was differences in ethnicity, abilities, or just interest, everyone was their own person. And because of this...there really was no "average." As, what is average if no two people are the same?

Sure, maybe this place wasn't perfect. Almost no place is. But it was a place like no other. A place where Luz could be herself. A place where she was surrounded by people who love her for who she is, and not for who they want her to be. Sure, the Boiling Isles may be weird, but to her, that same weirdness is what made it the most important thing of all: beautiful.

A/N: Okay, that's all for this short oneshot! I really enjoy watching and writing about the Owl House, so let me know if you would like me to write more from the series in the future.

Thanks for reading! Bye! ❤︎
