The cops burst inside the busy lobby of the Leamington Hotel taking the staff and guests at their gun points, ordering everyone to throw their hands in the air and freeze at their spots. Wasting no time, the officers divided into several teams, and took control over different parts of the hotel. The entrance was blocked and the exits were shut down, allowing no one to step in or out of the building.
The team comprising the highest number of officers was led by their new lieutenant. Following his orders, they divided into two. Half of them sprinted towards the elevators while the other half rushed to the stairs, making their way to secure the seventh floor.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, they hurried out and took their positions around the area, aiming their guns at the man, holding the revolver, and the girl scurrying away from him. The patroller's eyes went wide in shock and the cops took the opportunity to storm towards him and tackle him to the ground.
The lieutenant gave orders to his officers to scatter around the area and locate other patrollers around the floor. Within the next few moments, two other patrol guards were brought to the front. Their guns were taken away and their hands were cuffed at their back.
After a quick trip around the floor and making sure, everything was under their control, the lieutenant came to stand beside Dylan.
"Mr VanAssche," he said in acknowledgement. There was no reply. The cops were opening every door and inspecting every single corner of the floor. The boxes filled with arms and drugs were carried out and towards the bank of elevators. The lieutenant raised his brows in amazement as one after the other, huge crates containing highly sophisticated guns were being carried out of the residential hotel rooms and stacked on the ground.
Dylan, on the other hand, appeared to be totally unbothered by the scene play out before him. His eyes were fixed on the officer ahead, who had his gun pointed at Nadia as a precautionary measure. When the lieutenant came to stand next to him, Dylan didn't acknowledge him. It was only after he spoke the next sentence that he managed to grab Dylan's attention.
"I've heard and read quite a lot about you Mr VanAssche. There have been rumours all around about you always being present at the places you're not supposed to" he said, following Dylan's gaze but doing nothing about his officer, "Now seeing you here, at the suspicious floor, I'm guessing it's not merely a rumour after all".
Dylan tilted his head to look at the new lieutenant standing beside him. The man's eyes were focused on Dylan's face trying and failing, to read him.
"Nothing you heard or will hear about me is going to be a mere rumour, lieutenant, be very sure of that. My job requires me to be at places I'm least expected and being a police officer of the most decorated precinct in California, I believe, that's your duty. It's good to know at least one of us is working diligently to retain peace in the state, which is quite ironic to say to a man who is worshipped as a hero in his hometown. Don't you think so, Lt. Callum Debrowski?" Dylan saw the look of surprise pass across the man's face before it was hidden behind a pseudo smile.
An ideal police officer with a perfect track record, recipient of the Medal of Valor as a Sergent before being promoted and transferred to the best precinct of California, Lt. Callum Debrowski was, no doubt, an impressive man. His career history was a clean as it could be and Dylan was determined to uncover more.
He had never been a fan of police officers. They were meddlesome folks who always tried to challenge the status quo, wanting to create problems for him and his firm. In time, however, Dylan had mastered the art of using them for his own good but the records about the new lieutenant told him, it was going to be a bit harder this time. Though, he will find some dirt on the officer eventually.
