If the Pandemic never happened
"I already told you, I don't have time for that today. I'm on a tight schedule" I said rolling my eyes.
David sat pouting at the end of the white marble counter, tripod in hand. "Stop bugging her, Jesus, David" Natalie quipped. "If you have time to come over and steal my food, you have time for a five second cameo in this week's vlog." "It's not stealing if you invite me over for lunch" I countered "Besides, if you wanted me in the video so badly you should've hit 'Record' while we were eating." His face fell. Yah that's what I thought. "Anyways, thanks for the pizza but I gotta run! Lots of editing to do. You know how it is." I said slinging my bag over my shoulder.
David walked me to the door, whining about how I 'never come over anymore.' "Twice a week isn't enough for you?" I teased, but I knew better- the lack of quality time isn't what bothered him. The thing he hated most of all was that I'd never fallen for one of his elaborate schemes. Unfortunately this meant every invitation was another chance for him to prank me on camera; needless to say I was always on guard at his house. But no matter how hard he tried- no matter how many times I'd "walked right into his trap"- I simply wasn't as gullible as Matt or Zane or even Jason. Admittedly, part of it was the money. Out of the whole bunch, my income was second only to David's. All this to say, waving a set of Tesla keys in front of my face wasn't enough to make me bungee jump off the side of a skyscraper or get in a U-Haul truck full of water and drive around LA.
David stood in the door frame as I slid into the driver's seat "Coffee Sunday?" he asked with a dopey grin on his face. "Just admit it, you're in love with me" I responded playfully, rolling my eyes. "You got me- this is my marriage proposal" he chirped, getting down on one knee dramatically "At long last, the union of two powerful kingdoms. Our subscribers will be overjoyed." I rolled my eyes. What a clown. "I'll meet you at the Chapel O'Love in Vegas on Sunday. Don't be late" I said before backing out of the driveway. David laughed freely, and as my car rounded the corner I watched him go back inside and shut the door.
David liking me- a concept. I smiled, thinking back to freshman year of college. I'd just started my YouTube channel and, at the time, would've given anything to meet him much less reach his level of success. Well, 'reach his level' is a bit of an exaggeration. I'm close though- close for having started later than him, that's for sure. The channel went from a complete joke to a source of income in a matter of 3 years thanks to a handful of drunk hair dyeing videos and, ultimately, my friendship with David.
The small fanbase I'd accumulated that first year knew all too well how much I loved him and made a point of securing a meet-up by any means necessary. Eventually the amount of tags in my comments section caught his eye and he DM'd me. I was so nervous I couldn't function for a week leading up to our collab. Before that first appearance in his vlog I had a considerable following, but his shoutouts definitely put me over the edge. It wasn't long before I was a regular guest, and by my Junior year of college we were tied at the hip.
