3:40PM.
I rubbed my sweaty palms down my thighs. Is what I'm wearing okay?
I didn't think much about my outfit when I ran out the door this morning- olive green leggings, loose white graphic tee, sneakers. And I didn't even wash my hair. It was a miracle I even thought to put on mascara. Sure, it was only coffee, but the thought of being seen with him in something I could easily wear as pajamas (and have worn as pajamas) was slightly concerning.
Finally the clock struck 4PM, which meant the interview was over. I waited anxiously for the sound of footsteps as the crowd erupted with applause.
Breathe.
The doorknob turned.
Breathe!
"Y/N, you ready?'
Namjoon's voice rang out over the background noise. "Yes" I exhaled, and within the next 10 minutes everyone was packed up and escorted outside. Knowing the fans might scour the area for any signs of BTS, one of their body guards drove Namjoon and I in my car to a coffee shop on a different side of town- G&B Coffee.
At first I was worried he'd get recognized, but in the car he switched out the flannel for a maroon hoodie. Then, after putting on a face mask and lowering his ball cap onto his forehead, Namjoon felt sufficiently disguised. Hardly anyone noticed him. A few young girls did a double take, but the look on their face said they weren't convinced enough to stop and ask.
We snuggled into a small table in the back corner of the shop with our coffee, courtesy of Namjoon's black credit card. As to be expected, his body guard stayed close by but kept to himself.
"Soooo..." I began shakily, "I lowkey feel the need to apologize for not knowing who you were." He dipped his head and chuckled softly "No need to apologize. You'd be surprised how many Americans still don't recognize us unless we're literally onstage performing." "Welllll... confession- this morning was the first time I'd ever listened to your music. I'd heard of you guys before, but it wasn't until I saw the billboard for your concert that I looked you up." My cheeks reddened. He obviously doesn't care but for some reason I still feel bad.
"And what did you think?" he asked. "Huh?" "Of the music. What did you think" Namjoon pulled his mask down to take a sip of coffee. "I'll be honest that was the first time I ever listened to K-Pop... and I absolutely loved it." A huge grin spread across his face. "Of course, I couldn't understand it, but I also didn't feel any pressure to? And that's funny to me because I've always been such a lyrics person? Like, I attribute so much of my appeal to a song to what it's about. But the essence of your music... it's all right there in the melody and in the sound of your voices and your inflections. I mean obviously I plan to look up the translations because it's pretty clear to me you're fantastic writers, but all I'm saying is....I'm rambling aren't I?" My voice trailed off.
