Her Grief

"You sure you don't want Fang to join you on this mission?"

She watched as her husband shook his head and gave her a goofy smile.

"Don't worry. I've been to this area a number of times by now. Nothing I can't handle"

She still couldn't get rid of the nagging feeling in her chest. "I know....just, be careful, okay?"

Boboiboy stepped closer to her before cheekily leaving a peck on her cheek. His smile grew wider at the blush forming on Yaya's cheeks.
"I will. See you later"

"Love you"

"Love you too"

Her instincts were yelling at her to stop him. Her senses screaming that she would regret just watching him walk away from her.

As that was the last time she ever saw him.

"Boboiboy!"

She sat upright on her bed. Eyes wide open, sweat drenched her nightclothes. She was panting heavily, her heart was pounding a thousand miles. She placed a hand on her forehead.

A nightmare.

No.

A memory.

Painfully reminding her the last time she was with her husband almost one year ago.

The last time she saw him.
The last time she held him.
The last time she heard him.

Tears blurred her vision in the already dark room. She curled into herself, hugging her knees tightly as the tears flowed freely. The darkness of the night heightened the one emotion she loathed. Grief overwhelmed her.

She should have gotten over it.
She was a superhero right?

But she couldn't.

She could never let herself get over the love of her life.

Her sobs broke the silence in the room. Alas, she was alone. The bed felt empty without the familiar warmth. The sombre mood glaringly reminded her of her loneliness.

She should have crashed into Ying's room when she offered.

But she didn't want to wake Ying up in the middle of the night because of her constant nightmares.

Taking a deep breath, Yaya tried to calm herself down. She was growing tired from crying anyways.

She sat up on the bed, resting her head on the bed rest. She looked down and held the heart shaped locket draped around her neck.

Her 25th birthday gift from Boboiboy.
The last present she received from her husband.

Gently, she opened the locket, one side of the locket  revealing a picture of the both of them on their wedding day. Her finger grazed over the old photograph. A sad smile covered her lips.

"I miss you .." A sob broke through her chest. "..so, so much"

Feeling that wave of sorrow start to overwhelm her, Yaya took another deep breath to prevent her tears from falling.

She cried through this nightly routine almost on a daily basis. Every time, she wondered how she was still able to shed some tears despite already bawling her eyes out the night before.

But can you blame her?

She missed her husband. Desperately.

They still had dreams they wanted to fulfill. Dreams of settling down and starting a family. Dreams of raising their children and growing old together.

Seems like fate didn't allow those dreams to become true.

How cruel.

She could go on and let her thoughts occupy her mind. However, a sudden call from her power watch prevented her from doing so.

Surprised, she checked the time on her watch.

It was 3 in the morning.

Why in the world was Ying calling her?

Despite the oddness, Yaya answered the call anyways.

"Hello?"

"Yaya! Shadow Hunter was spotted! Meet you at the hangar in 20 minutes"

Ying ended the call abruptly. Yaya, despite the wave of emotions she just experienced, simply wiped her tears abruptly before slipping out of bed.

After all, a job is a job.

Even if it meant working at 3 am in the morning.
