"What do you mean they were in an accident?" I yelled at the officers at my door.

There I was, Tagen Dale, standing in the doorway of my parents modern, two story house that we moved into a little over a year ago. There were two officers at my door that had come to tell me about an accident that had happened about an hour ago. Although I saw it on the national news, I never expected it to be anyone I knew.

"I'm sorry son, but your parents were the one in the accident. They died on impact. If you'd like, we can give you a ride." The short, chubby one told me. He was bald and had thick, black rimmed glasses on. He looked around 50.

"If this is some kind of joke, I swear to God, I will take your guns and shoot both of you," I informed them both with the most stern face.

"This isn't a joke. Please come with us. Your sister is already at the hospital," The tall one said. This one looked like he was in his early twenties. He had a very distinctive birthmark on his neck. Maybe it was a hickey. I couldn't really tell.

"No. I'm not going with you. They just went on their date night. They should be home any minute. I don't know why you're even here." I mumbled the last part. I couldn't really believe it. My parents were invincible.
...
After a few more minutes of a very heated argument, I ended up going with them. We were standing in the doorway of the morgue. My sister, Kaycie, comes out sobbing as she ran into my arms. Kaycie was only two years older than me, so she was nineteen. She is such a daddy's girl, it's unbelievable.

"Tag, please tell me it's not true. Please tell me it wasn't them who died in that crash," she cried out while her hands loosely hung around my neck crying on my shoulders.

"Kayc, seriously. Let's just go in there, look at the people, and walk out. It won't be them. Mom and Dad are still out on their date night," I said while remaining calm. I'm in shock, of course. I don't understand why they would play such a sick joke on us. Who in their right mind would do that?

Before we could go on with our lives, they wanted us to identify the bodies of the two random strangers that lay lifeless on the cold, metal pullouts.

As we made our way into the dimly lit room, my sister took hold of my hand and grasped it tightly. I could feel her shaking and breathing really hard. For someone who always looked good, she was a real mess.

"Right this way, children," a very old doctor said. He looked pretty old with gray streaks all over his head and white chest hair poking out of his shirt.

As two nurses began to pull the covers back off of the strangers heads, my heart began to beat faster as each second passed. As I closed my eyes, I heard my sister let out a cry and run out of the room. I slowly opened up my eyes to see my mother and father. I slowly backed my way out of the room and ran.

I don't know where I was running. I don't know why I was running. I don't know how long I was running, but right now, I didn't care.
