Lost Boy (Cain)

You wander through the beautiful forest outside of your city. You hold your camera that is hanging around your neck and your worn, leather bag across your chest and over one arm. You have come to the forest to take pictures and clear your mind, since you have recently went through a breakup with a boyfriend that had cheated on you. You had been feeling so depressed the past few months that you just needed to get out. Listening to the birds calms you as you walk deeper and deeper into the forest, ignoring the damp smell of oncoming rain. You stop twice to take pictures but are more intent on just walking through the dense trees. Even as it begins to darken you continue to walk, not knowing where you are going but, not really caring. You talk to yourself a bit, about things in your life, and try to make jokes to yourself. Suddenly, after aimless walking you realise how dark and windy it has gotten, knowing now that it was stupid to wander this far into the woods. You laugh a little at yourself for being so careless, making you wonder if you have gone insane. "May as well carry on..." You say to yourself, tucking your camera into your bag. As you walk deeper into the forest, in the dim light you see the trees begin to change, from spruce and birch trees to thick, fanned leaves of ferns, and palm trees. You look up and around you to see that the thick rain clouds have turned blue and you feel the air get thicker. It was almost as if you were in... a jungle? The sounds around you change as well and you hear the squawking of a toucan and the hisses of snakes. "What..." You trail off on your thought, the faint sound of a flute now filling your ears. You pull the messenger bag tighter around yourself and push quietly past fern leaves to where the sound is coming from, gasping quietly as you see, in a narrow beam of moonlight, a creature sitting on a rock, playing a soft tune on a wooden instrument. As odd as he looks, with fox like ears, and oversized eyes, he is beautiful in a mysterious way. The wind breezed past softly, sending his red hair sweeping across his forehead, above his gently closed eyes as he focused on the song. The wind blows, brushing a fern leaf against your arm, causing you to jump. The boy snaps his eyes open and looks at you with his bright green eyes, halting his song. You both stand frozen, until he finally cracks a small grin at you beneath his instrument.

"Just decided to drop in and listen?" He asks in a voice that sounded breathy and soft like mist.

"I-Well-I mean, I really liked it." You feel your face get slightly warm as he smiles a taunting, playful grin and leans back on one of his arms.

"Well, thanks. I'm always glad to have fans." He chuckles. "So what's your name?"

"Shopie" You manage to spit out.

"Cool, mine's Cain, if you even care. How did you find this place?" He asks.

"What do you mean? It's just a forest that lots of people visit." You take a few steps towards him.

"Well, it's just that you look..." He trails off, staring into your eyes.

"What?" You ask, trying to hide the slight concern in your voice. Suddenly a crash of expected thunder crashes, causing you both to flinch.

"Aw, man." Cain looks at the sky and puts his hand out to feel the starting rain. "Come on!" He hops up and grabs your hand, pulling you down a path in the trees.

"Cain, where are we going?" You ask him as you run behind him willingly.

"Don't you want to see the rest of Neverland, Shopie" He calls back to you. You run through countless trees until you finally reach a clearing where there is a huge waterfall.

"Oh my gosh.." You exclaim, slowing to a stop and letting his hand slip from yours.

"No, Shopie we're not there yet! Come on! He runs ahead and you follow him towards the water fall, the rain beating now hard on your heads. He waits for you and takes your hand, leading you down a small worn in path in the grass to underneath the waterfall.

"Oh, Cain! Cain! Look over at us! Who is that? Cain, come swimming with us!" You hear a chorus of high pitched voices calling Cain and look to see 5 mermaids leaning out of the pond beneath the waterfall. Cain acts as if he doesn't hear them and leads you underneath the waterfall, helping you climb up the slippery walls and into a small cave beneath the falls.

"Those your friends back there?" You ask mockingly, taking off your wet bag and coat.

In the light of the moon, he glares at you with a smile on his face, turning slightly red. "Nah, they just happen to like me." He replies. Sitting back against the stone wall , looking at you. "So, really, what are you doing here?"

You tell the Lost Boy everything and soon, you are talking like best friends, making jokes at each other and revealing your innermost secrets. After a laughing fit, Cain looks at your sopping bag. "What's in there?" He asks. He doesn't give you a chance to answer, though, because he is already pouncing onto the bag to look into it. You leap onto him, trying to pry the bag out of his grip. You successfully toss the bag to the other side of the cave and try to pin him down and keep him away from the bag. You wrestle around on the rock floor, laughing and yelling at each other hysterically, when you finally give up and let him pin you to the floor.

"You gave up." He panted, laughing. "That means I win."

"I guess it does." You say, back, breathless.

"You look beautiful..." Cain says after moments of looking at each other. "Shopie, are you against kissing boys with tails?"

"I don't know, I've never tried it." You reply as he presses his lips firmly onto yours. Lost in time, listening to the roar of the waterfall, you kiss him back. And you can not say that you are against kissing boys with tails at all.
