¹⁹| EPILOGUE
"You met me with a bagful of lies and the disclosures never seem to be getting any less better. What else huh?"
Either he was shameful of what he was doing to not reveal his true identity or his so called fearsome mob boss he referred to was a laid back person who was cool with impostors.
"That's it hon," He snickered. "Shall we get back to where we were?" Axel- sratch that, Chris asked. Even in my head, the way his name rolled out from my tongue seemed so unfamiliar. Chris.
"Fear not," Chris feigned assurance. Eventhough his eyes were fixated on me I shifted my gaze to watch his right arm snaking across his lower back as though he was hiding something. It reminded me of the first day at his house where he presented me a bagful of necessities.
"For I'll make sure the last thing you remember, is my name." I heard the cock of a gun.
Ironically, the circumstances have changed and instead of sighting him pull out a bag I noticed I was standing on gun point. Yes, he pulled out a gun wherewith it's muzzle whispered revenge, chaos and death. Though it was coated in black I could see the red painted on it. Dried blood.
Maintaining a stable breathing came out as a task impossible of doing, for, one move and I could be six feet under, joining my parents-a white reunion of anticlimax and shame, as a failure.
Please no. I begged internally hoping for a last minute change or even a miracle.
"Any last words to say, No-Ra." The entire house stood quiet except for my wild heartbeat, pumping fast against my ribcage.
"I can't die like this," my voice cracked, tears threatening to spill off my eyes. I can't die without knowing my past. I can't die without knowing the reason my parents had to die.
"Why not?" I gasped when Chris elevated the gun from my chest to my forehead. My body shook violently when I felt the cold tips press against my skin.
"A bullet to the head. Puff," He spoke hoarsely which made me shut my eyes, entirely, with force. He was enjoying this. He had been feasting with my fear since the beginning.
After flashback to flashback of what we had together, I allowed the water work to start.
I cried. He watched.
I muttered prayers. He sang death. An innocent cowering before a criminal party. At that thought, my tears halted, teeth gritted and fists balled up. Opening my blood shot eyes I asked. "Is it really necessary to kill a person and get a deed done? Your boss is a coward and you, following a spineless leader's path is also a coward. May you all burn and rot in hell, you insane psychos." I spat hoping my words would wash across his face. However my bold action wasn't tolerated by the man in front of me, for, he snarled and swore curses.
"Fucking bitch! Die!" He pressed the gun tip harder against my forehead, this time as if wishing the bullet would pierce my skull forever. I whimpered as my eyes fluttered shut, instantly.
Bang!
The next thing my ears could follow was a loud gunshot along with blood smearing across my face.
Before I could claim myself dead I felt a large body fall on top of me causing my numb body wobble back and fall to the ground, warwardly from the contact. I yelped as my eyes busted open with trauma after taking in the scene in front of me. It wasn't Chris who pulled the trigger with the motive of finishing me off but someone else on Chris. He was shot in the head. Who would do that?
A painful scream was let out from Chris as he struggled to open his eyes and his breathing ragged. Pushing his almost dead body away from me I scrambled away to the furthest corner, crying.
From the distance I inspected his face and regretted immediately when I spotted the bullet pierced on his forehead.
"C-chris?" I called out, moving my gaze to his chest. I could see him fighting for his life.
"No..." he wheezed in an attempt of acknowledging me.
"One thing I don't reckon is, asking you to steal my name and pose like me. Fucking traitor," a steel cold voice spoke out in the dark and before I had the chance of figuring whom the voice belonged to another shot rang. My hands shot up to my mouth as I shrieked witnessing Chris' upper body move up before dropping down finalising his death. It wasn't just blood from his head that added up patterning the floor but also from his chest. He was no more after getting shot twice.A bullet to the head and another to his chest.
My face grew even more pale as realisation dawned upon me. The stranger accused Chris of identity theft. So he must be...
"The real Axel," I whispered before darkness filled my vision. The last thing I would be remembering isn't Chris' name but Axel's.
