"Amara?"

She lifts her head, shutting off her phone instinctively.

"Sorry," he apologizes, either not noticing her shiftiness or too polite to comment on it. "I didn't make you wait long, did I?"

"No," she replies, sliding her phone into her back pocket. "Ready?"

He nods.

"Lead the way, then."

They step off campus, heading in the same direction that she goes for Kokubunji Station, but the stationary department he told her about is apparently past that and past Seido.

It's been two weeks since then and she's pretty sure he has plenty of better things to be doing, but he did set today as the date for their little outing, so it's fine. Probably.

It's overcast today, the temperatures a little too chilly to be comfortable, the prelude to the brutal autumn that'll set in soon.

It's hard to believe September is halfway done; they're approaching the Sports Festival and preparations have begun. Those like Chris don't have any real obligations. She, unfortunately, does.

"Heard something about new arrangements for the Sports Festival." He glances at her. "Do you know anything about that?"

"More than I'd like to," she replies, fiddling with the strap of her messenger bag. "They're switching up the teams and their sports. So, the volleyball team is getting tennis, the tennis team is getting soccer, and the soccer team is getting volleyball. It's supposed to be a challenge. Last year, they just put us against faculty teams, but with this, they're calling on us retired players to join in against the current lineup. Why, I have no idea." Seems ill-timed, given that third years like her have far better things to do than practice — she gets away scot-free because she has less work than the others in terms of college preparation but as for the others, they have double the work.

"You get to play volleyball again at least," he offers, and she appreciates the optimism, but it's been so long since she's been physically active that getting in shape for this, much less volleyball, is going to be horrible. "I'm sure Hosaki will be willing to help you out."

"No," she mutters. "No, she'll be happy with watching me suffer, because my friends are nice like that. It's fine." She rolls her shoulders. "I'll have to talk to some people back home, get some tips, maybe pass them onto the rest of the third years. Any idea what the baseball team is doing?"
