"James!" My mom screamed as we walked in. My mom always had this weird thought that James and I would end up together. That's not going to happen. Although he hasn't told anyone, he came out to me a few months ago as gay. After he did, everything made so much more since.
"Hi!" He said, happily. James and my mom had always been close friends.
"Weren't you coming home at 7?" She asked.
"Well, we were going to, but we got bored. What's for lunch? I'm starving." I said.
"It's 1:30, why haven't you eaten?" My mom said, horrified.
"We got carried away shopping..." I said. Looking for joking forgiveness.
"Okay well, there's sandwiches in the fridge." She sighed.
"Alright!" James yelled from the kitchen. When he got there? I have no idea.
I ran into the kitchen, "What's up?" I said.
"There's PB&J's!" He said with a huge grin on his face. He kind of reminded me of a child at a candy store.
I laughed and took one he was offering me, "You want to sleep over?" I said while I swallowed a quarter of my sandwich.
"Oh, sure." He said, eating his.
We finished eating and went upstairs. We tried on our costumes, (looking amazing by the way). I set my alarm for 5:00 and we fell asleep to the music playlist we made together a few years back.
When alarm went off, I turned it off while getting up. Normally I would fall back asleep; however, I was excited! I got dressed into one of the shirts I bought yesterday. It was a baggy, long sleeved, tan shirt. I paired it with high waisted, black jeans. I put on some brown wedges, and did my hair into a high ponytail. I then woke up James.
I whispered, "Are you going to stay here, or do you want me to drop you off at your house?"
"Do you mind me staying here?" He said, through heavy, tired, breath.
"Not at all! See you when I'm home." I said, getting up and going out the door.
"Alright, bye Zoey." He said. I could tell his voice drifted off while he fell back asleep.
I ran down the stairs, ignoring what my mom told me the day before. I ran out the door to my car, grabbing my keys on the way. With my heart beating, I drove downtown.
I got there at 5:55am, thanking everything, that I wasn't late.
