I still remember
Third of December
Me in your sweater
You said it looked better
On me
Then it did you
He heard these words through the walls, the sound very faint, but it was there. He sighed, although the faint sound of the music and the rain in the background was very calming, he knew that there was something going on with her. She'd only do this when she was crying, of course he had found this out by intruding in on her. He found her curled up on the floor, balling her eyes out. She had her hands in her hair and gripped her locks harshly, like she was ready to pull them out. Her face was red, and her eyes were very glossy. Her tears even began soaking the carpet underneath her.
He got up from the soft and warm bed he was lounging on and made his way over to his bedroom door. He placed his hand on it and twisted the knob and pushed forward, opening the door. He walked out and headed for her room.
He knocked rhythmically on her door and waited for a response. Nothing, she didn't respond, could she even hear him through the music? Instead of knocking again, he opened the door and prepared himself for the sight he was gonna see.
There she was, laying on the cool, wood floor. She was sprawled out, her legs and arms out like a starfish. Her face was all red as well as her eyes. Her eyes were glossy like that of a doll. The outside of her eyes were puffy. He could see the remnants of tears on her face.
Once she had heard him come in, her eyes widen and she snapped her head towards him. She immediately sat up and began wiping away her tears. She quickly scrambled to turn off the music which was way louder in here then what he heard in his room.
"H-hi Craig" she stuttered out, her voice was very squeaky due to the amount of liquid she was swallowing. She mentally kicked herself for sounding so awful.
"Hey" he responded, walking closer to her. She rubbed her neck in embarrassment, this being the second time he had seen her as a mess. He sat down in front of her.
"What's wrong?" He asked her with a gentle and comforting tone that made her want to tell him everything. She stayed silent for a bit, and refused to look at him in the eyes. It was so silent he could even hear the faint sound of the ongoing rain in the background.
"I- he, he" she tried to say, but couldn't seem to let the words roll out. She opened her mouth to speak again, but nothing came out. She felt as if she was choking on her words, a weird bitter taste in her throat.
"It hurts.." she resorted to tell him. She embraced herself, trying to give herself comfort.
"It really, hurts" she whispered. In response to this, he moved closer to her.
"How-how do I ease this pain..?" She said, her tears once again surfacing. He awkwardly embraced her.
"Why.. does it hurt so much..??" She asked as she began to sob. She cried into his shoulder, and the fabric of his shirt began to soak up the tears. Craig didn't know what to say, he was never really one to comfort, heck he was basically 'emotionless' as people would say. He stiffly pat her back. (Y/N) softly chuckled and pulled away.
"I'm sorry, I really shouldn't be burdening you with my problems" she said weakly smiling and wiping away the freshly new tears rolling down her cheek.
"No, it's fine, you can talk about them... I just... don't know what to say to make you feel better.." he admitted, rubbing his neck.
"Thanks for the effort" she said, gently smiling. He nodded in response.
"I.. like your taste in music.." Craig commented, trying to avoid the awkward silence.
"You do? Thanks" She said, showing a shy smile. The smile quickly faded away once she thought about the ruckus she was causing him.
"Doesn't it bother you that I turn up the music too loud?" She asked him, worrying if she was disturbing him.
"No, it actually sounds nice. Hearing it through the walls.. gives it a bit of an echo and the rain makes it sound even better" he told her as he closed his eyes, remembering how calming it sounded.
"You should listen to it" he said opening his eyes again. He stood up and held his hand out for her to grab. She looked at it for a minute, then glanced up at him. She smiled and gently placed her hand on his. He pulled her up and she went to turn the music back on. The music blasted again and she cringed, hearing how loud it actually was.
He held her hand and led her into his room. She shut the door on their way out and did the same when they arrived at his bedroom.
Once she shut the door, she heard how peaceful and calming it really was. He was right, the rain really did make it sound better. She subconsciously sat down on his bed and closed her eyes, making her mind focus solely on the delightful sounds of the music combined with the rain. The music was enchanting, hypnotizing, even.
Her reaction caused him to softly smile. He carefully sat down next to her, not wanting to break her out of her trance. He listened to the music alongside her. He didn't realize it, but he unintentionally made her feel better. She felt glad to have him as a roommate, and as a friend.
