Halloween had always been Stevie's favorite holiday

Halloween had always been Stevie's favorite holiday. Sure it was one day that consisted of the other three hundred sixty five days, but it's was the only day where you could actually pretend to be someone you're not. Hell if she could, she would make everyday like Halloween, but no matter how hard she tried, she could never change. She was born how she was and that's how she was always going to be. It was an everlasting cycle.

When she was thirteen years old, she had a best friend. And as shocking as it sounds, her best friend was Moon. They did everything together, they gossiped about boys and girls, they painted each other's nails, and they'd have dance parties every time they had a sleepover. As long as they were together life was perfect. Then, freshman year, Yasmin came along.

Yasmin became the third, in Stevie and Moon's friendship. Stevie liked her sorta. She was a little too rude for her liking and was too much of a priss. Stevie kept those opinions to herself though because she could tell that Moon really enjoyed having Yasmin as a friend. So she never expressed them.

Every time they all hung out she could feel the teather that she had with Moon slowly breaking. So she tried to change. She tried to act like Yasmin, she tried to be excited about going out shopping, and she tried to learn how to curl hair. But to no avail, she couldn't. She never found joy in shopping, it only made her heels hurt. She tried to learn how to curl Moon's hair but she ended up burning her palm. No matter how hard she tried she could never be Yasmin. So they left. They found more enjoyment with each other then they ever did with the peculiar brunette.

So now all she could do was watch. Watch them be best friends - better friends than her and Moon ever were. Look at herself in the mirror and see all the failed attempts she had made in her life to try and be a different person, a better person. A person who looked approachable, a person who could steal the spotlight when walking in a room, a person deemed good enough. But all she could see was herself. Boring old Stevie. Like who the hell names their kid Stevie? What am I, a boy? She thought to herself, mentally cursing out her mother.
