Dovepaw's heart pounded with fear as Longtail ran in to save Mousefur.
"Leave her, Longtail! She chose to die!" screeched Dovepaw.
"I have to save her! Better a healthy elder than a blind one!" yowled Longtail, running in.
Briarpaw dashed after him, but Graystripe pulled her back.
"I have to save Longtail!" Briarpaw cried.
"You can't! Let him be! The tree could kill you!" insisted Graystripe, still holding her.
Briarpaw slipped out and ran to the camp. The massive tree was going to fall any heartbeat now. Dovepaw rushed over and Briarpaw slammed into Dovepaw, and the tree crashed into the hollow at that very heartbeat.
Dovepaw snarled at her. "You could've been killed! Don't try to be hero next time!" Dovepaw hissed.
"I could've fetched him-" she was cut off by Firestar.
"Let's go now, and check." urged Firestar. Brambleclaw, Lionblaze and Berrynose ran into camp, and Dovepaw followed.
The patrol found Longtail's and Mousefur's corpses. "Good. Now we don't have to waste prey on some useless cats." Ivypaw meowed coldly. Brambleclaw and Dovepaw were shocked at her disrespectful words.
"Don't say that!" hissed Brambleclaw, but Ivypaw glared at him coldly, too.
"Like I care!" she snarled, running out of the hollow.
What's wrong with her? Dovepaw thought as Ivypaw's silver tabby tail disappeared into the mist.
