After finishing the bowl of stew the man gave me he stood up and grabbed the bowl as he looked at me.
"I'll get you some more but do you think you could answer some questions now?"
He asked in a calm and suspicious tone after a moment I nodded as eating that stew had given me a small amount of strength, with this he turned on his heel and went to the oven refilling the bowl from a large pot on top of it.
"Well how about we start with your name."
He said before turning back and putting the bowl infront of me as he sat back down, his question made me lower my head and put my hands in my lap.
"I..I'm sorry, but I do not know my name."
I said in a quiet monotone keeping my gaze in my lap as I feared it would anger the man, however to my surprise he was comforting in his words.
"You don't remember your name? What about your family, people that know you?"
He asked in disbelief with concern in his eyes but I could not speak instead only shook my head slightly keeping my gaze and my hands in my lap, silence filled the room for what felt like eternity until in a kind and comforting tone I heard:
"You were abducted by those Blood Suckers..weren't you?"
His words caught me off guard as I had expected to be met with anger or frustration, I nodded before slowly looking up at the man.
"Y-Yes...when I..I was a child. I no longer remember my life from before."
I said hesitantly in the same monotone as before unsure of what would happen now I stayed silent awaiting his next words, I watched as he and the girl looked at each other sympathetically before turning their gazes back to me.
"That explains the shackles then...same with why you're so pale and malnourished."
The man said in a concerned and comforting tone before standing up and walking to the door he'd brought me through.
"Stay there I'll be back in a sec."
He called out before opening the door and walking out, shorty after he returned with some sort of large tool with two long handles.
"W-What are those?"
I asked hesitantly though still in a monotone with a look of confusion and fear in my expression, the man looked at me confused before looking down at it.
"These are bolt cutters..."
He said in a confused and inquisitive tone as he looked at me, I hadn't heard of them before however I imagined they would not be used kindly.
"Can you give me your right hand."
He said reassuringly and not wanting to anger him I did as he asked though I did so hesitantly, to my surprise he put these bolt cutters on the shackle around my wrist and with one motion cut through it causing it to fall to the floor with a crash.
"Now for the other hand."
He said calmly and without hesitation this time I brought my left arm out infront of him, with another crash the second shackle hit the floor before he placed the bolt cutters on the table.
"How's that?"
He asked with comfort and concern in his words as he watched me gently hold my wrists, after a moment I looked at him and nodded.
"Much better, thank you."
I said gratefully though still in a monotone however it did not seem to bother him as he picked up the shackles with a small smile before walking to the door and placing them beside it along with those bolt cutters.
"Well, you may not know your own name but we can tell you ours."
He said kindly and reassuringly as he walked back over to me stopping a few feet away.
"My name's Adam, this is my daughter Chloe."
He said as he gestured to the girl sitting across from me who was smiling sympathetically at me, after a moment the man walked over to me and helped me up bringing me to a sofa a few feet away from the fireplace.
"Try and get some rest."
He said as he sat down at the other end of the sofa allowing me to lay down on the soft cushions as the heat of the fireplace warmed me, I fell asleep quickly however I did not sleep long being woken by memories of what the Vampires did to me. I must have screamed in my sleep as when I awoke Adam had his arms around me while his daughter sat on the floor between the sofa and fireplace.
"You're ok, you're safe."
He said with reassurance and comfort in his words holding me to his chest, it calmed me though I do not know why and oddly tears began to roll down my cheeks yet I was no longer scared.
"Are you ok?"
Chloe asked with concern in her words and expression at the sight of my tears, before I could answer Adam gently pulled away from me examining me.
"I am sorry I worried you both, I did not mean t-"
I started before Adam shook his head.
"Don't apologize, not for this."
He said in a calm and reassuring tone not knowing what to say I simply nodded, after a moment of silence I asked:
"May I try to rest again?"
In a quiet monotone unsure if it was ok, to this the man nodded reassuringly.
"Of course, go ahead."
He said comfortingly and with that I moved to lay back down however before I could Chloe sprang to her feet.
"Wait!"
She said enthusiastically causing me to freeze and look at her both confused and concerned.
"When my dad hugged you, what did you feel?"
She asked curiously causing me to think for a moment.
"I am unsure how to describe it, it was a warmth however not like the flames."
I said in the same monotone as before only with confusion, when she had heard this she formed a smile before walking over to me.
"If you're ok with it I'd like to try something that might help you sleep."
She said both confidently and reassuringly as she awaited my response, after a moment I nodded and with that she sat on the sofa beside me with her back against the corner.
"Scoot back and get comfy, this used to help me sleep when I had nightmares."
She said as she moved her right leg against the back of the sofa and the other hanging off touching the floor, after a moment I did as she asked and moved back against her resting the back of my head on her chest. As I did so she gently put her right arm around me as I laid there, a short time after I had fallen asleep only this time without nightmares.
