CHAPTER 2:

The next day, when we were outside playing, somehow, I went off wandering in the forest. I jumped over rocks, and little streams all by myself. Sure is quiet here. I thought, looking around at my surroundings. I just then noticed that nothing looked familiar. I was lost. Now, a normal five year old girl would cry, right? But I found this calming, being alone.

I tried to find my way back to the house, because I thought mom and the others would be worried about me. Suddenly, I heard footsteps. They sounded like they were running. I looked over in that direction but found nothing. I listened closely. I could hear someone breathing rapidly from running, but no footsteps. I decided that person was hiding from me. Just then, a head poked out from behind a tree trunk. "Oh, thought you were a-" He started, but then someone from behind him put a hand over his mouth. "Shhhhh." I heard, though it was in a hushed voice.

Then, they came out from behind the tree and I realized they were Emma and Ray. I blinked at them. "Angie?" They said, confused. "Heh, told you, she probably followed us." Ray said, smirking at me. Emma didn't look like she used to at the house. Right now, she looked secretive, more... dangerous. Ray caught me staring and walked over to my side and kneeled down. "I know, right? She looks so much more different than usual." Ray said, whispering it in my ear. I nodded. "That's how she looks when she's serious, or rather, when she's ready to fight." Ray said, standing up again. Emma turned to us. "We should head back, mom would be worried if we were gone too long." Emma said, motioning us to head back.

We jogged back and on the way we stumbled across a baby deer. I immediately stopped and went to help it since it was stuck under a rock. Ray and Emma stopped to look back at me. They jogged over. Emma gasped. "That's a baby deer! It's stuck! Ray, help me move the rock." Emma said, walking over to the rock. "Ugh, you're so annoying. It's just a stupid deer." Ray said, scoffing. Emma looked offended and whipped her head to look at Ray. "So you're saying that if you got stuck under a big stone and someone saw you and said 'Ugh, it's just a stupid boy.' And walk away, you would be fine with that?" Emma said, facing Ray and putting her hands on her hips. "Not like we have to move the rock anymore." Ray said, smirking. "W-what?" Emma stammered, looking back.

You see, when they were fighting, the little deer whimpered. And I just couldn't wait any longer. I went over to the rock and pushed as hard as I could. And, surprisingly, the rock rolled off. I stood there looking at the poor deer and its hind leg seemed to be broken. "Woah, Angie! What did you just do?" Emma said, looking in astonishment at the rock and me. I picked up the deer and nuzzled it to make it stop whimpering. I made sure I didn't touch it's broken leg. I looked at Emma and Ray and started to jog back home.

"Angie, Emma, Ray! I was so worried, where were you?" Mom started fussing over us, checking for cuts and bruises. I showed mom the deer we found. "Oh my. Let's get inside and treat that little deer." Mom said, taking it from my hands and motioning all her lovely children back to the house.

Mom was upstairs treating the baby deer while everyone else was downstairs either running around and playing, or helping to make dinner. I had a little bruise on my elbow and mom wrapped it up for me. I tried to help make dinner, but I was way too short to reach anything. So all I really did was get the utensils and set up the table. Mom was proud of me, though, she said I was the most helpful. Of course I knew that wasn't true, but I still took the praise.

It was time to wash up for bed. Mom helped me take a bath and changed me into my pj's. I smiled at her when she tucked me in. I nuzzled the little angel plushy and fell asleep.
