What do we have here?
The hat spoke in Tarra's head.
It did not surprise her in the slightest. She grilled Blaise on every aspect of the sorting process, much to his annoyance. She smiled as she thought about his eyebrows scrunching together, his lips tilting downwards, and his drawn out voice saying, "shut it."
Oh, I see...
The hat said.
But Tarra didn't let it finish because she interrupted it, But you don't have to see because I've seen what you've seen and I've seen where I end up.
She felt the hat hesitate.
I'm a seer, you see, she continued, Just look at these futures I've seen.
She focused on her visions: the boy who exploded into white light, the maze of mirrors, the yellow glowing eyes, the man sneaking outside the house, and the glowing trophy. Once they passed, she manufactured another in her mind. She sat in the Great Hall with Helen beside her and Juno across from her. The three girls smiled at each other and admired their new snake patch on their robes.
Of course, she's never seen a vision of herself in Slytherin, but the sorting hat did not need to know that.
Tarra pulled herself back to focus on the darkness around her. She kept her thoughts calm... and trained on food. Her stomach growled.
Yes, thought the hat, You are a seer. I've been placed upon a couple hundred before and few with visions like yours.
The hat thought for a second.
But it is... WILL YOU QUIT THINKING ABOUT MASHED POTATOES! Bellowed the hat.
Sorry, muttered Tarra as part of her mind wandered to the possible desserts, but as you can imagine it is rather unexciting to be sorted when you already see where you're going to end up.
Yes, but why would I place you in Slytherin? I see ambition, resourcefulness, and cunningness in you, but you are also hard-working and fair. You would do so well in Hufflepuff, and I do not need to be a seer to know that. You would be a kind and helpful friend to many.
But we both know that is not where I end up, said Tarra as she manufactured the vision of her in Slytherin again.
Yes, but in Slytherin- the hat shuttered - You'll face hardships. There is no doubt about it. Not with your blood. Slytherin himself would be furious at me for sorting another muggleborn into his house.
I know, said Tarra earnestly, but I can do so much good in Slytherin. I can help heal the rift between muggleborns and purebloods, and I need to be at the center of it all to do so.
An ambitious goal, Ms. Williams, and one I am afraid that you will fail to achieve. I have seen the minds of generations of pureblooded Slytherins. Their prejudice ruins deep. But if you insist, then it shall be.
