She hides her problems behind a smile, behind that smile is a world of hurt. You think you know her, but you really have no idea. -Unknown
To Amethyst the school always smelled like BO and sadness. A stench that seemed especial strong that day. Posters littered the walls, all of them seemed to held cliché messages about not smoking or how drugs can ruin your life. I wish more people payed attention to those.
Looking around, the origin of the BO clicked in her head. Today was game day, so rather than the stench being a result of the inherent lack of hygiene in the male species, it could be blamed on their jerseys. The same jerseys that each player had worn at every game since the beginning of their sports career. Nothing could get them clean, not the best detergent or the hottest water.
It was tradition that every player wore their jersey on game day. No matter what. So to the dismay of every living creature with a nose, the stink returned almost every Friday from September to late March. It was longer than most teams played but it was town tradition and one of the few available events. Most of the teams in the area were the same way so the schools never ran out of teams to play, and once the weather warmed up in April the other sports started.
Lost in thought, Amethyst managed to make it up to the second floor of the school before she quite literally bumped into something. Someone actually. The someone that she had hoped to avoid as long as humanly possible.
Stephanie Williams whipped around to glare at her. She was the queen bee of the school. Always in charge and never without some sort of entourage. Today there were only her best friends Paris and London Duke, but others were never far behind.
A large crowd began to form as Stephanie started her screeching, "Watch where you're going Fowl Face! Who knows what kind of poor person disease you could give me."
Amethyst began to apologize for bumping into her, all the while thinking, "Me give you a disease? Who knows what you have with your reputation. I'll never understand how somebody as pretty and rich as you could choose to spend their time whoring around. Besides, even if I was 'poor' there is no such thing as a 'poor person disease'. There is, however, such a thing as dignity and respect, both of which you seem to lack severely, so maybe you should worry more about that!" She didn't say this though because it would be rude and unkind, she didn't really know what Steph's life was like or why she was the way she was. She just really, REALLY wanted to say it.
Amethyst was so zoned out while contemplating breaking her kindness rule, she didn't see the slap aimed at her face until it was to late,
*CRACK*
Amethyst heard Stephanie's hand make contact before she felt the sharp pain in her left cheek. Really should have seen that coming after zoning out like that. Thank god Steph has a weak right. Its far less likely to bruise.
"Seriously bitch, don't ignore me. Ugh, I swear you are useless." Stephanie was back to screeching. Her cronies were wearing identical smirks on their identical faces, really it was a creepy thing to see, as they sniggered and "oohed." The crowd was silent as they intently watched the proceedings. Nobody stepped forward to diffuse it because everybody knew it was best to avoid Stephanie's attention when she was angry. In the brief silence that would follow Stephanie's insults and Amethyst's apologetic replies, you could hear the crowd whispering.
"For such a smart girl she is so dumb."
"Ugh, she is so clumsy, can't she learn to stay out of the way."
"Should we get a teacher? Nah, never mind. It's just the Fowler girl."
Amethyst couldn't deny the hurt she felt at that. Just focus on diffusing this situation.
