Chapter six - strength

This series has gotten out of control but I don't caaaaare

David didn't even know why he was scared, the argument was staged and Lucifer knew what happened. David sighed, "Lucifer I... I'm sorry... things got a bit out of hand..."

Lucifer sighed as well, "I didn't know my own brother was going to betray me like that, by all means none of this is your fault, I guess it did get a bit out of hand but it's all dealt with now."

David could tell he was still upset about what happened with hades, "maybe it was for the better..."

Lucifer nodded, "yeah..." he then remember what David had told him prior to their fake argument, "oh yeah, are you alright? Let me see your injuries."

David complied and let Lucifer inspect him, it didn't take long for Lucifer to find burn marks and scars on David's body.

Lucifer sighed and healed the burn marks and scars with magic, they healed to the point where they were completely gone. Lucifer lightly kissed David's forehead, "I'm sorry I couldn't be there to protect you..."

David lightly smiled at him, "it's okay, not even Apollyon knew where I was and he watched me disappear with Hades..."

They were both speaking in a low whisper like they didn't want anyone listening in, despite the house being empty. Lucifer lightly held David's hand in his own, "do you want to go back now?"

David smiled, "sure, it's kinda boring here anyways."

Lucifer chuckled, "alright let's go." Lucifer opened up a portal that lead to the throne room. Lucifer held David's hand as they stepped through it and into the castle again, it was dead silent in the throne room, the only sound that could be heard was the sound of the portal quietly shutting. Lucifer walked up to the throne to grab his Staff, the thing that gives him power and status.

David never really paid any mind to the staff before, it looked like a long wooden branch with a red crystal ball at the top, the ball pulsed and was almost reminiscent of a heartbeat, the staff was a dark grey (almost black) colour with branches twisting and winding across the crystal ball to keep it in place. David shrugged and walked up beside Lucifer, "is that your staff?"

Lucifer nodded, "it's connected to me, it gives me my power and my status as the king of the underworld. My staff gives me magic as well, well it gives the current ruler of the underworld magic. It was foraged with the wood of the tree that bore the forbidden fruit, the same tree that Adam and Eve were told not to eat from." Lucifer laughed, "it was made by god but now serves the underworld... I guess this staff and I have something in common then huh?"

David smiled, Lucifer held the staff with a firm grasp.

Lucifer frowned as he gazed at the staff, "It is connected to my heart, if it breaks or the ball is smashed then my heart will stop and I will die..."

David nodded, "what happens if someone takes it?"

Lucifer's expression didn't falter, "if someone else takes the staff then they will be the new King of hell, I assume this is what Hades was after."

"You're correct brother dearest!"

Hades appeared in front of Lucifer and David, "and I will be taking it now." Hades held Apollyon with a sword to his neck. Hades laughed maniacally, "if you don't comply I'll kill this traitor on the spot."

David gasped, "let him go!"

Hades laughed, "or you'll what? You're weak! You're just an imp, you can't hurt me!"

Apollyon tried to squirm out of Hades's grasp, Hades laughed and pulled the sword away from Apollyon and lit it on fire. When the fire faded from the sword's blade it was glowing red, it could now easily cut through Apollyon's neck like butter. Apollyon stopped moving in fear of having his head cut off like it was nothing.

Lucifer held his staff tight, "don't do this brother..."

Hades gritted his teeth, "and why shouldn't I? I'm the rightful king of the underworld, it should've been me all along!"

"Hades you're acting like a child!"

Hades could feel his anger growing, "I am not a child! I'm the true king of the underworld!"

Hades raised his sword to kill Apollyon, he swung it downwards but it was caught by David.

David didn't even care that his hand was being burned, he pulled it out of Hades's hand. The sword landed on the ground with a loud clang, David then punched Hades in the face; causing him to drop Apollyon.

Apollyon scrambled away, he watched as hades only got more mad.

Hades held his now bleeding nose, "you little whore! You'll pay for that!" Hades lunged at David and knocked the smaller demon to the ground. Hades pinned David to the ground, Hades was about to attack David when Lucifer pulled him off.

Lucifer glared at Hades, "stay off of him." Lucifer threw hades across the room.

Hades hit the opposite wall, he didn't move afterwards.

David looked up at Lucifer, "why didn't you do anything to help Apollyon?!"

Lucifer set his staff down, "you looked like you had the situation under control..."

David stood, "burning my hand is under control Lucifer?!"

Lucifer didn't look at him, "you disarmed him and you got Apollyon out of his grasp, I would say that's under control."

David was starting to get angry, "I had to step up because you wouldn't!"

Lucifer sighed, "I didn't step up because I had the staff, what could I have done? Give it to hades?!"

David stopped, "you're scared, aren't you?"

Lucifer stopped, "I'm not scared-"

David interrupted him, "you're scared of it breaking- you're scared of losing power aren't you?!"

Lucifer said nothing.

David stared at him with disbelief, "so your status and power is more precious than your friend and your boyfriend." David laughed, "I guess you'd be better off without me then." David stormed out of the castle, he pushed open the large doors and flew away.

Lucifer growled before walking off to his room, Apollyon just watched as they parted.

"I should talk to them..." Apollyon ran down the Hall to try and catch up with Lucifer.
