Valentine's Day- uch, she thought to herself, the worst day of the year

Riley had always hated Valentines Day. It all started in the ninth grade when her crush had written her a note asking her to meet him in the dark at the bottom of the steps at midnight, on the night of the school dance. When she arrived that night, a group of his friends had poured a bucket of water on her head. She was known as "Pee stains" from then on.

Ever since, Riley struggled through school. It got so bad that she even tried to convince her mom to let her transfer schools. When that didn't work she got a job and started to work really hard in school, so that right after graduation she could move far, far away into her own little apartment.

Then came graduation- June 3, 2004-the worst day of her life

When they started calling people up to receive their diplomas, Riley got ready for one of the best moments of her life, but when it was her turn to go up, she heard it, and then she was she was frozen.

What had they called out? "Pee stains Peterson"

Riley was so humiliated that she ran up on stage, ripped the diploma out of the announcers hands, and ran off through the back exit. She ran to her car with everyone laughing and pointing at her.

As soon as she got in her car, she started to ball her eyes out.

About 20 minutes later she started to head home. When she arrived, she went straight to her room.

But something was missing, her prized possession, a diamond ring given to her by her great-grandmother, was gone.

Since these events had been related to what happened on Valentines Day, she has always feared leaving her penthouse on Valentines Day, in fear something will happen.
