When Riley woke up she was in a great mood. The birds were chirping, the sky was bright, all was right in the world. Until she look at her calendar. Saturday, February 14th. The worst day of the year. But this year she wasn't going to let it get to year. For this year she had made a New Years resolution to go out and have some fun on Valentine's Day.
She got up, got dressed, ate breakfast, brushed her teeth, grabbed her purse, and she was gone.
She was headed out to the city to have fun.
After high school, she had moved from Albuquerque, NM, to upstate New York.
She loved it here, so many things to do, to see. She figured that since she had never been to an actual monument in NY, she would head out to the Statue of Liberty.
About an hour later, she was there. She stood in line for about 30 minutes before getting to the ticket counter. She asked for two adult tickets, 1 for her, and 1 for her colleague Theresa, whom she had brought along with her.
They rode a boat over to the island and took what seemed like, a thousand pictures.
When they got off the boat, they asked if they could go to the top of the torch.
The tour guide said it was an additional $50 a pop. Riley and Theresa, both in agreement paid the extra money to get to the top thinking that if you go to the Statue of Liberty, you gotta go all the way. So about fifteen minutes later they were at the top.
The view was just breathtaking. They stood there for about 10 minutes before they started to head back down, and Riley was thing to herself, "I'm finally having a good Valentine's Day".
That is until they got halfway down the steps and Riley noticed a HUGE tarantula crawling towards her. Riley considering she has Arachnophobia, becomes hysterical screaming bloody murder. So Theresa, not far behind runs towards it and stomps on it, and Riley stops screaming. Then they continue down the steps as if nothing ever happened, confusing other tourists.
When they reach the bottom, they get back on the boat, and ride back to the mainland, which is when Riley says goodbye to Theresa, and thanks her for the fun time.
About an hour later Riley is home thinking that the Valentines Day curse is over, but when she walks into her bedroom she can't believe her eyes.
