OPHELIA BENNETT WAS East High's resident golden girl. Well-liked by everyone, envied by a good few, with her spot as the school's soccer captain making her extremely popular with both students and faculty alike. Ophelia had always strictly stuck to sports, musical theatre was never her thing, she couldn't sing, act or dance to save her life. That was all reserved for her best friend Gracie Romero, but in the end, Ophelia still found herself involved with their school's production of High School Musical and all the drama that comes right along with it.
NINI SALAZAR-ROBERTS NEEDED a distraction, a deterrent away from both her ex-boyfriend Ricky Bowen and EJ Caswell, her latest boyfriend. She had never planned to fake date Ophelia Bennett, let alone talk to her, the brunette having always partly intimidated her. But when the opportunity all but falls into her lap, there was no way she was going to turn it down. But between juggling her new role as leading lady Gabriella Montez and the relationship drama that always seemed to plague her, she had never expected for Ophelia to blaze her way right through her heart.
BUT FAKE DATES don't last forever, often as fleeting as a gold rush themselves. They don't work out in all practicality, no matter how momentarily one could seem utterly consumed by someone else. As for Ophelia and Nini, would they just fizzle out like so many other showmances once the final curtain closed?

i've wanted to make a hsmtmts fic for ages, just couldn't come up with a plot i fell absolutely in love with. with olivia's song 'driver's license' coming out last week, it seemed like there was no better time to publish this so here it is! this plot is partly based off the song 'gold rush' from taylor swift's new album 'evermore'.
