I woke up the next morning, kind of excited to work at the library. Tossing the covers away, I swung my legs over the side of the bed, letting my feet hit the floor. Heading towards the bathroom to get ready for my day. After doing what I normally do during my morning routines, the only thing I don't do is tell my daughter and girlfriend goodbye. I sigh and walk out the door, making my way back to the library. After about twenty minutes of walking I realized something, something important... I don't know the way to the library. I was too engrossed in the conversation I was having with Adiline to pay attention to my surroundings. I groan in frustration and take a seat at a nearby bench with my head in my hands. I sit there thinking of ways I could get to the library. It seems to be too early for people to be up or they are all in the stores considering there is almost no one on the streets.

"Nicole?" a voice said softly, frightening me out of my thoughts. I look over to see who it comes from and smile at who owns it.

"Adiline! What are you doing here?"

"I never leave..." she said quietly, "So, where are you headed this time?"

I was confused about what she said first, but let it go. I laughed lightly before replying, "I'm trying to find my way back to the library..."

She just looked at me and started to giggle uncontrollably. I looked at her confused and laughed nervously, which only made her giggles turn into full on laughter. The small child finally got control over herself and subsided back to small giggles before she took a breath.

"The library is directly behind you, silly" she said, still giggling to herself.

I blushed and looked behind me and what do you know, there stood the library.

"I guess I found it." I laughed lightly.

"Ha-ha, yes you did," she caught her breath, "So, why are you here this time?"

"I needed a job for the next two days until my flight takes off."

"Okay, well lets go in, I'm bored."

I laughed, "Okay let's go."

We walked hand in hand through the doors of the library. When we entered, we were met with a gust of cold air, causing us both to shiver as the icy air hit our skin.

"That's different," muttered the eight-year-old.

She released my hand and went deeper into the library, looking for Lillian I assume.

"Lillian!?" I called out.

"In the back!"

Adiline and I walked towards the back to see what was going on. We found Lillian messing with the thermostat on the wall while using a variety of words.

"This thing is broken, I don't like this electric fireplace, a real one would be so much better."

"Miss Lillian, why don't you let Nicole try?" Adiline questioned.

"Brilliant idea! I told you that you are a bright girl Adiline." Praised Lillian.

Something flashed in the little girls eyes, but it quickly disappeared.

"Yes, Miss Lillian, I remember you telling me that. I haven't forgotten."

Lillian's featured softened, "Why don't you go check the drop box and check in any book that were dropped off last night."

Adiline just nodded and walked off.

"Poor child," sighed Lillian, "I wish there was something I could do for her."

"Wait, what's wrong with her?"

"Oh, nothing is wrong with her, she just has a difficult life at home."

"What do you mean?"

Lillian looked at me then around the corner to see if Adiline was close by before telling me,

Okay, well here is the next chapter. I probably would have forgotten to put it up if musiclover4589 didnt ask me when I was going to update, so this is for her.
