"Oh no." I glanced at my watch. I was running late again. It wasn't the first time, but it sure was the most embarrassing one. The day that he was supposed to be in the office, I had decided to get five extra minutes of sleep. I sped down the road turning to park in the small parking lot beside the building. I hopped out my car as I rushed into the building taking the elevator up. As the elevator came to a stop, the doors opened and I ran to my cubicle sitting my things down. "They're in the conference room." I turned to see one of the janitorial staff looking my way. "Thank you." I grabbed a pen and notepad as I made my way to the conference room. I nervously open the door as I slowly entered then all eyes landed on me. I looked down feeling ashamed. "Ms. Alena," A soft yet full-toned voice spoke from the head of the long table. It was him. My boss, Michael Jackson or as I knew him, Mr. Jackson CEO of the J.Michael law firm. I froze as I look up and at him. "Yes, sir?" I was honestly scared of what he was going to say."You're late... Again." I stood there frightened not knowing how to respond. "If it happens again there will be consequences." I softly sighed in relief. I thought he would fire me on the spot, but he didn't and I was grateful for that. "Do you understand?" His eyes met mine as they locked. "Y-yes." he slowly rose an eye brown as his eyes narrowed. "Excuse me?" I cleared my throat as I corrected myself. "Yes sir." His eyes left mine and turned back to the presentation. I took a deep breath as my eyes wandered around the table seeing unfriendly faces. I was the only female at the law firm. When I had first got the job Mr. Jackson made it very clear that I wasn't going to be treated any better than the guys. He told me he was going to be hard on me like everyone else or even harder. I couldn't afford to lose another job. This was my fourth job this year. After dazing off for about 20 minutes that meeting was over. Everyone got up to leave and so did I. "Ms. Alena, you stay." I sat back down quickly. As everyone walked out he walked to the door shutting it. "I don't appreciate your tardiness." He made his way towards me. "I know. I'm really sorry Mr. -" "Sorry isn't going to cut it this time!" His voice rose in anger, which made me jump slightly. "You know Alena, when I hired you I thought you'd be good for this company..." I smiled feeling flattered. "But for once I was wrong." My smile immediately dropped. He leaned into my ear as his warm breath filled it. "I don't want any problems out of you be a good girl or I will handle you myself." Those words flooded my mind. Good girl? I snapped out of my trance to see he'd left me in the room alone. I got up and went to my cubicle getting right to work.
