Long Beach Rehabilitation Center
"sign here... and here... anddd here.""make sure to include your father's phone number and contact information."
"and you sister's as well, just in case."
after scribbling my signature down a few times and writing my dad and sister's number i slid the paper across mrs. henchman's desk. her and a few other people walked with me to the lobby. i rolled my suitcase to the door and waited by the door so i could see when my dad pulled up.
i hope he had lily with him.
as i was leaned against the door something came in my mind, someone. gus. i lifted off of the door. "mrs henchman?" she looked over to me with her usual smile. i cleared my throat and looked around to see who was listening. "what's going on with gus?" i lowly asked her. her face formed into a frown.
she hesitated not wanting to tell me. it wasn't really her place to tell me personal info about anybody other than myself in the rehab center. i smacked my lips. "come on now, you know i'm not gone tell nobody and it's just me, i just wanna know if my nigga straight or not." i kept my voice low, and i didn't usually curse in the rehab center just to keep it respectful, but i wasn't really thinking about it at the moment.
she sighed. "he's fine. he's only got a few days in the hospital and a lot of changes have to be made concerning his situation, which might include extended days or transferring him to another center." damn, gus. why couldn't you wait until you were out to act a fool man?
mrs henchman whispered even lower something else to me pulling out a pen and paper. "this is his contact information. it's just his grandmother's number. she's his only contact so keep in touch with her if you wanna talk regarding gustav, ok?" i nodded and slipped the paper in a pocket on my suitcase and zipped it up.
"appreciate it, for real."i turned my head towards the door at the sound of it opening.
it was my dad, lily on his side as they walked in and say hey to everybody.
my dad walked up to me and we did our shake, he pulled me in for a strong side hug afterwards. i missed the fuck out of my pops.
lily held her arms out while rolling her eyes. "um... me nigga?" she said a little too loud. "shut up cussin' in here." i ruffled her hair and pulled her in for a hug too, her head was against my chest because of how taller i was.
"miss you roach." i said making her laugh against my chest.
"miss you bean stalk."
"come on, i'm ready to get the fuck out." i mumbled, pulling away and mumbling goodbyes to everybody in the lobby. my dad was given my medication and after that we were on our way. i made sure to hug mrs. henchman before leaving out. i looked to the familiar white car that was parked out front. my dads. i was in the car before him and lily, letting out a big sigh once i was in.
my dad got in the front and lily behind me. "you alright?" he asked starting the car. i turned on the radio. "that's all i been getting asked since i been in there, man. i'm sober. now i just wanna go home." i reclined my chair without putting on my seatbelt as he drove off.
i didn't look twice at the rehab center.
⏳
grabbing a handful of fries and stuffing my mouth with them with one hand, i scrolled on my phone with the other.
the food in rehab was decent. but not even their waffles could compare to a fatburger with fries and a maui-banana milkshake. not at all.
i finished the fries and dropped the fry bag back in trash bin, gulping down the milkshake while seeing how much instagram changed in two months. that damn app always doing unnecessary updates.
the only useful update they need to do is take away unsending messages. hate that shit.there was no more of my milkshake left so i threw the cup away and stretched across my bed. i locked my phone and set it beside me, clamping my hands together and staring at the ceiling.
it was almost 10:30 a.m., right around the time i was supposed to take my second pill of the day.
sighing, i popped on my elbows, looking around my room for a minute and walked out to find my meds.
my dad was in the closet that was in the hallway shuffling through a shelf, probably was looking for something. he heard me coming up. "mier, that's you?"
"yea, you got my meds? it's 10." i said, knowing he would already know what i mean. he shuffled through the bottom shelf some more and pulled his hand out to reach for the top shelf where he must've put my pills.
he must've been looking for something real important. he handed me the bottle of pills and went back to shuffling for whatever he was looking for in that damn shelf.
i walked off, bottle full of adderall in my hand and made my way in my room.
closing the door and locking it behind me as i plopped back on my bed. i sat up and scooted to the edge of the bed.the bottle was still in my hand. i unscrewed the top and swallowed the pill dry, screwing the top right back on after.
yea, i know. if i'm so desperate to get my hands on drugs again why am i not gulping down the whole bottle of adderall? simple. because i wasn't interested.
adderall was my prescribed medicine, and for the average person without adhd, adderall would is an 'upper', keeping you energetic and awake. for me, the average person with adhd, it did the opposite. ima have to explain it more later. but overall i wasn't interested in popping them for nothing other than my adhd, and even then i hated taking em.
i bet they sold like crazy in high schools though. half of the kids in los angeles county schools all drugged up and shit anyway.
i pulled out a drawer, tossed the pill bottle inside and closed it shut.
knocks started at my room door. "yea?" i semi-yelled.
once i opened the door he came in sitting on the edge of my bed. "you do plan on finishing school, right?" he looked up from the bed at me. "i'm not asking for too much other than for you to graduate." i expected him to bring up school, my dad take that type of shit serious.
i nodded my head and sat down with him. "yea yea, fasho." i put my hands in the pockets of my shorts. "i just wasn't feeling it while i was in rehab but ima get on my shit." i don't know if what i was saying was true, but i said it anyway because that's what he wanted to hear.
"good, cus they expecting you next monday to be showing back up in school," he yawned and stood up.
"i'm bout to go take a nap, you straight?" he asked. "of course, you know me." i shrugged, smiling and dapping him up before he left out. when the door was closed i went and sat back down on the bed.
i open the drawer to look at the pills one more time and closed.
gus came to my mind making me pull out the piece of paper mrs henchman gave me with his number.
i dialed the number waiting for an answer while it rang.
it rang more.
no answer.
