Distractions

Nathan had spent half an hour scrolling through motorbikes at an affordable price. Despite Ryan offering to spend as much as Nathan wanted on a bike, Nathan didn't want to go above £4,000. He had found a couple with his price range that he liked, but Nathan knew he would have to rely on Lucas to drive when they go out with Dylan. Nathan thought he would hate having to rely on another person so much. It was definitely the opposite. He enjoyed being able to not have to worry about bills, childcare, or just making enough money.

After spending another ten minutes looking at bikes, Nathan decided he wouldn't find any others he liked.

After receiving permission from Lucas to log into his personal account to do work, Nathan didn't bother checking if his client had responded after he saw no notifications.

Instead, he continued writing his novel, hoping to get it finished so he could get even further ahead at college.

"What are you doing?"

The sudden curious voice startled him. Looking up from his work, he fought the urge to roll his eyes when he saw Emily walking towards the couch.

"School work," Nathan replied, turning back towards his laptop screen and continued typing.

"What kind of work? Can I help?" Emily asked enthusiastically, Nathan didn't take his eyes off of the screen as he felt the ten-year-old sit beside him.

"I have to do this task alone; why don't you go and play?" Nathan questioned, silently hoping for Lucas to come and save him.

"I can't! My dad's taken my iPad! It's not fair!" Emily whined.

Deciding to ignore the girl, Nathan continued his work, hoping she would get bored and leave. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

"Can you play with me?"

"No, I have to get this finished," Nathan dismissed as he continued typing, slamming his fingers on the keys.

"If you don't, I'll tell Lucas you stole his laptop," Emily threatened.

Even without looking, Nathan could hear the smirk in the young girl's voice.

"Go ahead, he won't do anything," Nathan challenged, smiling to himself when he got the young girl to run out of the room.

Nathan was grateful for the silence that followed. Judging by the ten minutes that had passed, Nathan guessed Emily was bothering someone else.

"How are you doing?"

Nathan jumped slightly when he heard Lucas's voice. Nathan instantly lifted his head, his train of thought leaving him.

"Are you feeling better?" Nathan questioned as Lucas sat beside him, his blond hair still soaking wet.

"Yeah. I don't think I'm going to fall asleep now," Lucas responded, running his hand through his blond locks.

Nathan smiled as Lucas leaned over and placed a sweet kiss on his cheek.

"Have you almost finished?" Lucas asked, taking his phone out of his pocket and unlocking it.

"Not even close," Nathan said, not taking his eyes off the laptop screen. "Why? Do you want the laptop back?"

"No, I was just wondering. Take as long as you need," Lucas invited. "How many bikes have you found?" Lucas added, taking one hand off of his phone and grabbing Nathan's left hand in his, much to Nathan's annoyance.

"I've found two I really like and one I'll be alright with. Not that I don't love holding hands with you, but it's annoying to type with one hand," Nathan said, sending Lucas a fake annoyed look.

"Would you prefer to be distracted by me kissing you constantly?" Lucas questioned, sending Nathan a playful smirk.

"I'd rather you let me concentrate on my work. I'll tell you what, if I kiss you, will you let me focus?" Nathan questioned, placing Lucas's laptop on the table, giving his boyfriend his complete attention.

"That's better," Lucas whispered, quickly closing the gap between them.

Excitement flooded through Nathan when Lucas pressed their lips together. Nathan felt Lucas cup his cheek to deepen the kiss.

Having realised they weren't alone, Nathan shoved Lucas away.

"Your family's here, we're not alone," Nathan harshly whispered as he ignored the hurt look on his boyfriend sent him.

"So what? They're all upstairs. Even if they come down, we're together Nate, we're allowed to kiss." Lucas moved back into his former position and attempted to continue their kiss.

"I know that. I just don't want them to walk in Luke." Nathan accepted the kiss, but pulled away quickly.

"Fine." Lucas sighed dramatically while pulling away. "We'll finish this later."

Nathan just nodded and retrieved the laptop from the table and groaned when he saw the unlock screen.

"Here," Nathan mumbled, shoving the laptop towards Lucas.

"I could have sworn I gave you the password," Lucas said, typing his password in.

"You did. But I forgot," Nathan admitted, taking the laptop back and logging into his account.

The couple fell into a comfortable silence for what only seemed like minutes to Nathan.

Focusing on his work, Nathan didn't hear the door being opened.

Feeling someone jab their elbow into his side, Nathan instantly turned and glared at the culprit.

"What!" Nathan hissed, sending Lucas an annoyed look.

"Just thought I'd let you know my mum's home. Are you ready to meet her?" Lucas questioned, unaffected by Nathan's look.

"I don't know," Nathan replied honestly, placing the laptop back on the table.

"Don't be nervous, Nate. She'll love you, I know she will. Do you want to get this over with?" Lucas questioned.

Nathan nodded, interlocking his hand with his boyfriends. A small smile etched on his face when he felt Lucas run his hand over his knuckles.

Standing up, Nathan allowed Lucas to lead him towards the kitchen, ignoring the nerves burning in his chest, as if a naked flame was lit inside of him.

"Are you ready?" Lucas asked again, stopping in front of the kitchen door, where voices could be heard.

"I don't know why I'm so nervous. It's not like I haven't done this before." Nathan ran his spare hand through his hair.

"You can do this. It's nothing you haven't done before," Lucas reminded.

Nathan felt Lucas squeeze his hand before the older teen pushed open the door.
