"This is your retribution! You dare deceived the King and its people!" One of the citizens who came to watch the public execution shouted.

Alexander Newt. The man who was once known as a very righteous and upright noble had become the most hated noble in the Viénna Kingdom.

He was once the most trusted aide of the King. But now he's no more than a criminal who deserved to be killed.

The people accused him of someone who had evil intentions towards the kingdom. They said that he gained the King's trust for him to do all his illegal business inside the Kingdom.

Because if he has the King's trust, the King will not be able to doubt him.

The other nobles gathered the so-called evidence against Alexander to present to the King.

When the King got a hold of this evidence, he couldn’t believe what he saw.

His most trusted aide betrayed him?! Of course, the King got furious to the point of fainting.

He lost all his rationality and immediately put an order to execute Alexander without putting a trial first. It was immediate execution.

And now Alexander is on the wooden platform, where his execution will be held. A lot of citizens went to watch the whole ordeal.

At first, when the news came that Alexander Newt, the most respected noble in the whole Viénna Kingdon, will be executed, they could not believe it easily.

He's the most upright noble, there's no way he could commit a crime that deserved a sentence of execution.

But when they heard that he betrayed the King, their opinion changed so fast and sudden.

And now no one even wants to hear Alexander's side of the story.

Either way, Alexander doesn't intend to defend himself. He thought that once the people make up their mind to believe something, even if it was lies, then no one will listen to him anymore.

He just surrendered himself to his faith. The kingdom has spoken, and that was they wished for him to die.

There's nothing else left for him to do. Struggling would be futile, so all he could do was brace himself for his upcoming death.

He just wished that the people who served him will not be caught up in this suffering. They had nothing to do with any of this. If he was the only target then they’d be safe.

"The execution will now proceed." One of the guards announced as the executioner stepped on the platform.

The people watching the whole scene quieted and watched in anticipation.

Alexander kneeled waiting for his death to come. While the King and the other nobles were watching him up in the noble area.

The nobles watched his demise like they're watching an interesting play while the King was quietly looking at his figure from afar.

Until now he can't believe that Alexander would betray him. He wanted to believe it was all a joke. But he made a verdict on impulse, so he could not have time to question him thoroughly.

The executioner gives Alexander a cup of poison. The King still made his execution a painless one.

Before drinking the poison, he looks up where the nobles and the King are being seated.

And he said, "I just wish that you won't regret this decision, my king." Then he flashed a genuine smile before gulping down the poison.

8 seconds. That was how long Alexander's body can hold on, no one spoke in that 8 seconds. They were waiting for his body to completely lose the vitality that it once held.
