Headache-inducing blaring woke me up from a restless sleep. I smacked my hand around, trying to hit the source of the beeping until I managed to find my phone and shut off the alarm. With an over dramatic sigh, I kicked off my blankets and sat on the edge of my bed, overcome with the sensation of nausea and vertigo. I groaned, holding my head. Nightmare. I glanced over at Jayden's bed, not seeing him or Jacob there. Must be upstairs. I managed to pick myself up, stumbling into the bathroom. I glared at myself in the mirror.
"Ugh fucking bed head." I griped, grabbing my brush. Long messy black hair hung in my eyes until I brushed it away, showing my tired and stormy grey eyes, darkened by the massive bags underneath. Sunken cheekbones made me look like the walking undead, but with no hunger for brains or missing limbs. A pale scar ran just below my hairline, easily hidden by my wavy hair that usually hung in my face, covering my right eye, showing the barbell earring, the Tragus stud and the two small hoops pierced into my left ear, and two hoops in my right ear. I had two studs on my left eyebrow, and snakebite studs on my bottom lip, and a tongue piercing. Nine piercings, one for each person who died in the fight. I got changed out of my pajamas and into an old, red, oversized hoodie flannel that my mom used to wear all the time, a black top, whitewashed jeans and my worn black hightops. Hopefully Cass would approve and I wouldn't have to change. A simple silver ring was on my left ring finger, but sadly it would have to be put on a necklace soon, it was getting too small for me to wear. The words Nothing Lasts Forever could be barely seen, peaking over the collar of my shirt in their fancy, swirly cursive. On my back, a red, orange and yellow flaming phoenix spread its wings across my shoulder blades, reminding me to rise up from the ashes and be reborn. A red rose wound its way up my left bicep, a promise for Justice and Revenge. On my right forearm a little sparrow was taking flight, just like my brother, Cadin, would try to do. He always dreamed of flying. On my left calf a black flame covered my skin. Like my mother's fiery passion for everything she did. She was the most committed person I'd ever met, always finishing what she started, and always jumping to protect others. I sighed running my hands over my face before glancing at my nails. They were short, painted black and slightly chipped, making me frown. I would have to repaint them this weekend.
I grabbed my backpack and a beanie and headed upstairs. Quiet chatter could be heard as I opened the stairs door, peeking my head into the kitchen. Two girls and a guy sat around the kitchen island, chatting and eating pastries.
"Morning." I grumbled, pulling out a chair next to one of the girls. She was a smaller human, with shimmery purple-ish black waist length hair, blonde roots showing at the top of her head. Her eyes were piercing and yet alluring, dark shade of purple with gold around the pupils. She had a long sleeve, off the shoulder, black crop top with two skeleton hands flipping me off. Short shorts hung around her waist by a silver chain, fishnet leggings underneath. Her scuffed up combat boots that never left her feet, and a small purple voodoo doll hung from one of her belt loops. Her nails were short, painted black, like mine. She had a black choker on and was chewing on a strawberry scone.
"Morning sunshine!" She beamed, and I cracked a tired smile. Sunshine was my nickname, mainly because it was the exact opposite of me, especially in the morning. Jayden passed me a cup of coffee, as I greeted Mia. She brushed her long silvery hair over her shoulder, her green eyes sparkled in the dim light, making the gold flecks that hid in the forest green sparkle. Her black hoodie and leggings was the only indication of her introverted-ness. She smiled, tilting her head as she asked how I slept. I grunted in response, taking a large gulp of the scalding hot coffee. It tasted lukewarm, like usual. Jacob kissed Jayden, his light brown hair pulled up in a short ponytail. His blue eyes danced with happiness rarely seen outside our group, his little small clusters of scales, almost like a lizard, glowed a healthy green.
"Ray! Jayden gave me my binder this morning, thank you so much for getting me a new one!!" He gushed, hugging me tightly. I didn't return the gesture immediately, my brain working slow.
"Oh. 'Course man. It was no problem." I grumbled in reply. Sometimes I wish I woke up faster. His new binder fit well under his green shirt, nearly invisible. He danced around the kitchen like a dork, making all of us laugh.
I glanced at my phone, noticing my significantly less undead vibe in my reflection as I was reached dealing with minimal people capacity. Jayden smacked the back of my head as he passed, smirking. He sauntered out to the garage, Mia on his tail.
I grabbed a blueberry muffin from the bakery bag, taking a large bite out of the top.
"You guys almost ready?" I asked, yawning. A chorus of "yeah", "yes" and "yup"s came from my immature friends. I stood up, grabbing my keys and getting another cup of coffee, before Cass and Jacob followed me into the garage. I took the truck this time, Cass getting into the front seat while Jacob climbed into the back. We sat idly while Cass messed with the radio, until she found a song we all agreed on, and we were off, music up high and singing the lyrics like dumbasses. But sadly it wasn't long before we pulled up to our Junior High School. Both Jacob and Cass groaned when I turned the truck off, but they followed me out.
A somber mood settled over us as the giant bricked building loomed over us, and with a sigh, I trudged in. We stopped with Cass at her locker, letting her put her backpack away and chatting quietly, ignoring the other students around us. Once she had her notebooks all set, I walked with them to their Chemistry class, before we parted ways and I went to math. There were only a couple people in the room so far, as I made my way to the back of the room. Sliding into the seat closest to the window, I laid my head down on my desk, and promptly fell asleep.
The day was stupidly long as I slept through the majority of each of my classes. With my grades basically unsalvageable, it didn't bother me much. I drove Jacob to Cass' house, before Cass and I headed off to work.
Hello again! Heres chapter two! Enjoy!!! See you soon - Mousie
