Ayanokouji POV.
May 5
It's been 4 week, roughly 1 month, since I, Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, had enrolled in Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School and I'm placed in Class-D.
Our class are still at total shocked after the reveal of the S-system and the battle between classes.
There is also the midterm exams in 4 weeks time. And anyone who scored below the passing grade, which is 40, will be expelled.
(By the way, the timeline in this fanfic is kinda messy so bare with me)
There are many important factors in this. First is the expulsion.
Not academically gifted students like the 3 idiots and many more in our class are in danger.
Second is the class conflicts. I expected this to be part of this school based on how the upperclassman, acting hostile to each other. I knew the moment I enrolled here that this school is far from normal since it is controlled by the government. But I didn't expect them to make this school a true glimpse of society.
Right now, It's our lunch break and for some reason, I am on the school cafeteria with a girl. The girl in question have a long black hair with a pair of gradient eyes. The girl is eating the food, that she bought, beautifully. No matter how I avert my eyes, it automatically looked at her again.
"What are you staring at? You're creeping me."
She said as she showed a disgusted face.
"It's nothing, really."
I replied with a little bit of nervousness.
"Anyway, why did you called me out here?"
Earlier in the classroom, right after the class ended, my neighbor, who is now talking in front of me, asked me to accompany her on the cafeteria. And the way she said it...
'Want to have lunch together?'
It's not like her. As far as I know, this girl in front of me, Horikita Suzune, sees everyone as a dead weight. That's why she ended up alone in the class, not making any friends. The only person she talks to is me. Because of this, I selfishly include her as friend. Although I can't say whether she thinks the same.
So that's why I can't believe that she invited me out. I can't tell whether she is scheming something, or perhaps she began to see me as her friend? Nah, that wouldn't be possible.
"Actually, I want your opinion."
"On what?"
"On whether we let the 3 idiots to be expelled or not."
This is not what I expected. I don't mind asking that question but first....
"Why me?"
If she wants advice, she could have consulted Hirata or Kushida instead. Those two are like the leader of our class right now.
"You already know my answer and yet, you still bothered asking."
She then sigh and continued.
"It's because you're the only person I can talk to."
She paused to eat her lunch then she continued.
"You're probably thinking that I could just asked Kushida-san or Hirata-kun about this. But I can't even communicate with those two. They're like on a whole other dimension."
I have to agree with her on that.
"And since I don't have anyone I can consider a friend, I have no choice but to asked you, my neighbor, and a loner like me."
She didn't have to mention that last part. But since we're on the topic of friends, I need to ask Horikita about the matter that I'm thinking earlier.
"You don't consider me as your friend?"
I asked that as I ate the lunch that I bought earlier.
Horikita looked at me for a second before going back to eating her lunch. She ignored my question and there is silence. Horikita and I just continued to eat our lunch without talking. Although I can feel that she's glancing at me over and over again.
5 minutes have passed. Me and Horikita finished our lunch. I was about to stand up when a voice stopped me from doing so.
"What does it mean to become friends?"
Horikita asked that as she stare at the now empty tray in front of her. What does it mean to become friend, huh?
"Since I'm not experience, I don't know if what I'm going to say is correct..."
I took a deep breath before continuing.
"Being friends have a lot of benefits. If you have a problem, your friend is there to support you, and vice-versa. You can open up to each other and talk about a lot of fun things. You can hang out and have fun. If you ask for a favor, your friend will do it for you, not all favor though. In other words, being friend means that you can rely on each other. That's what I think."
My answer is based on my observation on the classroom in the past 5 days. The talks of the others that I just happen to overhear are stuck on my mind.
-Hey let's go somewhere.
-I have a secret to tell you.
-Do you know that--
I can't help but envy them. One of the reasons I go to this school is to learn about human warmth. I want to live as a normal high school student with friends that I can hangout with and friend that I can rely on. I do consider Horikita as my friend but unfortunately, she don't think the same.
"For someone with no experience, you really know the definition of friends."
"I answer is based on my observation only. I don't have friends."
This statement is true. However, the looks on Horikita is saying that that stement is false.
"So you don't.... consider me as a... friend?"
Unbelievable. Horikita said that while averting her eyes.
I can't believe what my ears are hearing. Horikita, who think of others as just some dead weight, is flustered.
"I..."
I think of words to say. And then...
"Don't get angry, but on since the first day of school, I selfishly though of you as a friend. But I don't think that you feel the same way. That's why I said that I don't have any friends."
"The heck is up with that explanation?"
She picked up her tray and stood from her seat. She then walked past me and as she did...
"Thank you, my friend."
She whispered those words in my ears.
She then fasten her walking phase and left the cafeteria immediately.
I was so shocked about Horikita's actions that I didn't realize.
"I just made my first friend."
