With a final look around i checked the time, i hadn't even noticed the fact that it was already 10pm. I peered at my belongings as they sat at the door, I walked to my couch sitting down and flopping backwards into its comfortable cushions. Before closing my eyes I slipped off my glasses and set them aside on the now completely barren coffee table that had held so many drinks in summers that had long passed. Sighing, I rested my head on one arm of the couch and drifted off.
I knocked that was much gentler than yesterday's rang through the small living room, jarring me into consciousness. I got up and opened the door as I adjusted my round eye glasses to rest on my nose. Stood in front of me was the royal guard, he was average height with medium length curly black hair that was tired behind his head. He had kind eyes and an ovular face, I assumed he had many friends in which he had made it easily. "By order of the king I am pleased to announce that we have arrived to retrieve you and your things to move you to the palace." he said cheerily. I chuckled, "it's truly an honor." I murmured. The two of us hauled all of my packed belongings to the carriage, a tall centaur stood patiently at the head of the carriage. She had a lovely spotted coat, her wavy hair was almost jet black but had white speckles near her forehead. Her human half looked like she spent most of her days tanning, as it was beautifly sun kissed with dark freckles scattered across her face like stars. She wore a wonderfully colored poncho and pleasant crystal jewelry. I climbed into the carriage, the guard following suit.
After half an hour of riding and chatting with the guard who i now knew as "Lycus", we finally arrived at the royal residence. I released a happy sigh looking upward at the massive structure, it had many towering pillars and massive windows. "I'll escort you into the castle to make it easier to find your way to prince Thomas." Lycus said motioning for me to follow behind him. I gave a brief wave to the centaur woman before turning to follow Lycus. As I followed him I stretched out my wings wide then pulled one in front of me preening it as I walked, I heard a loud laugh in the distance which I assumed to be the first of the princes that I'd meet today. As we approached the gates Lycus turned and walked down a different albeit smaller path, I followed him skeptically wondering silently where he was headed. He stopped in front of me pulling a key out of his pocket and pushing it into the lock of a door that connected to the pillar beside the front gate, the door swung open easily and I followed him into the small room. Once inside he locked the door behind him and led me up a narrow staircase leading to a sort of bridge over the small courtyard. We reached yet another staircase that spiraled down into the castle, at that entryway I finally met prince Thomas.
