you set down the grocery bags in the dormitory kitchen. Yuri followed your example. you both silently put away the groceries until a sudden crash snapped you and Yuri out of the awkward silence. 'thank Pavlova' you silently thought as you peeked around the corner into the common area."katya?" you assumed the crash was either her and Pavel fighting again or she simply ran into something. katya could be quite clumsy and both felt a need to be a mother to both the juniors. they were just like you, no family. so you took every opportunity to make them feel special. you hung stockings on Christmas, you packed the fridge with their favorite snacks, you even taught katya how to sew her pointe shoes the first time. sure enough as you rounded the corner there was little katya flopped down in front of the sofa.
"you scared me." you exclaimed as you snatched the remote from her hand and gave her a little bonk on the head with it.
"sorry sis," katya gave a sheepish smile as she snatched the remote back and turned on the tv.
"don't you know we're not supposed to watch tv until our free time?"
"is this not free time right now?" katya whined
"no this is our scheduled lunch break."
"but I already ate and I'm boooooored," katya dragged out the last part.
"fine, I still have to eat but we can sit with you, right yuri?" to be completely honest you almost forgot he was there. you hadn't realized when he walked into the living room. you tilted your head as he just kind of stood there slumped against the wall with his hood up.
"yeah," he answered so quietly you almost didn't hear him.

the three of you sat in the living room with yuri as far away as he could possibly be while still on the sofa and you and katya happily chatting away. pavel, the other junior dancer, came into the room.
"hey pavel!!!" katya energetically waved with a mouthful of popcorn. pavel couldn't help but smile he came over and sat on the floor in front of you and katya. you couldn't help but notice how quite yuri was being. you felt bad as you know what it's like to be isolated. you whispered something into the juniors ears and soon enough katya was in the air flying towards an unsuspecting Yuri.
"yuriiiiii" katya unleashed her battle cry as she tackled him in a hug. you couldn't help but giggle. noticing your laughter yuri blushed, pulled his hood higher, and crossed his arms.
"yuri why don't you come sit with us?" you had gotten up and were now facing yuri with an outstretched hand.
"I mean sure," he grumbled and you all went back to your spots. yuri interjected here and there to the conversation but ultimately it was you and the juniors talking. you tried to include him at every opportunity and you ended up learning a lot about his skating career. 'he seems to really care about this, huh?' you thought to yourself. it was nice to see yuri a little more lively talking about something he had a passion for. you smiled to yourself and bit your lower lip.
apparently figure skating bored katya and pavel as the two had moved to sitting on the floor in the center of the room throwing popcorn at each other and trying to catch it with their mouths.
"y/nnnnn" katya's familiar call shook you out of the conversation you and yuri were having. 'katya couldn't you have given us just five more minutes?' you thought to yourself then stopped catching what you just thought. you slapped a hand over your mouth.
"are you okay?" yuri asked.
"yeah, yeah I'm good I just remembered I have to water my cat! that's all." you sheepishly rubbed the back of your neck.
