Alfred gasped as he saw Gilbert sit down at the table along with Elizaveta. "Dude! We haven't heard from you all weekend! How was the city? Did ya do anything fun?" he asked, shoving his french fries into his mouth.
"Oh, it was awesome. We ate lunch at Serendipity, then we headed over to Roosevelt Island, where we walked around for a bit, until Lud decided he wanted to go to the Empire State. I couldn't call you cause Pops took my phone away. These tourists were asking for directions to the Flatiron so I sent them to a dry cleaning place. Get it, cause like iron?"
Lovino rolled his eyes. "Hahaha. So funny. You're hilarious."
"I know right!? But Pops didn't think so. Which is what I don't really understand cause whenever we go to Berlin, he likes to fuck around with tourists too." Gilbert huffed.
"Oh you know he only did that once! And that was because the guy was wearing a Yankees t-shirt. You know he's a diehard Mets fan." Elizaveta argued.
"Aren't we all?" Alfred sighed. Antonio shook his head, "Not all of us..." He muttered, trying his best to discreetly point towards Lovino.
The Italian gave him an offended look. "I never said that I hate the Mets, I just said that I hate baseball in general!" he defended.
"I second that. Why play silly old baseball, when cricket is a much simpler sport?" A bushy-eyebrowed Brit exclaimed as he approached the lunch table.
Alfred rolled his eyes. "Oh god. What are you doing here? It's not even your lunch period."
Arthur cleared his throat, "As class president, it is my duty to step in for the principal and his assistants while they are off somewhere, being burdened with finding ways to help make our school a better place."
"Pfft, you said doody." Alfred laughed. Arthur scowled, "No, you git!"
"Calm down, Arturito." Antonio smirked. Alfred laughed even harder, "Pfft, R2D2!" Mathias and Gilbert joined in on his laughing fest as Arthur rolled his eyes and pulled out a few envelopes.
"Here, you each get one. It contains your partner for the upcoming trip. Try not to lose it." He said, before walking off to the next table.
Lovino watched as his friends opened up their envelopes, having not received one himself. "Trip? What trip?" he asked, feeling discluded.
"Oh, you didn't hear? We had a meeting about it last week. All the tenth graders are going on a field trip over to Montauk next month. It's for history and science class apparently." Mathias explained.
"Wait, so in a month you're all leaving me at the lunch table alone!?" Lovino worried.
Antonio nodded. "Aw it's okay, Lovi. It's just for one day! You can hangout in the AV room or something, I'm sure you'll be fine!" he reassured.
"Who did you guys get?" Mathias asked. "I got Tino Väinämöinen. I've talked to him a couple times before."
"Hmm... I got Emma Abelsson. Never heard of her." Elizaveta mused.
Gilbert's eyes widened. "Look, Al! I got Mattie! Oh, this is gonna be awesome!" he grinned.
"Oh, sick dude! For real? Wait why do we even need partners in the first place? I thought we were just traveling in small groups with chaperones." Alfred pondered.
"Oh, they're planning on having us split up for some type of scavenger hunt. The group who finds the most stuff wins." Antonio explained. "I got Berwald Oxenstierna."
Mathias' eyes lit up, "Oh I know him! We were Bi-"
"Bible camp buddies, we know." Lovino sighed. Mathias laughed. "Yep! Damn guys, we're gonna have the coolest group ever! Al, why don't you tell us yours?"
Alfred shrugged and looked at the name written on his envelope.
"Kiku Honda."

2:00 pm EST
Kiku Honda... Alfred knew he had heard the name before, but he was never sure where. That is, until the substitute in Spanish class was taking attendance and a short raven-haired boy responded to that very name.
Señora Swallows was out sick that day, and the only other Spanish teacher was some young chick fresh outta NYU. She didn't really mind the students talking all that much since they were only doing packet work, so she plugged in her headphones and proceeded to watch Netflix on the school's computer for the rest of the period. Alfred decided to take advantage of this, and swiftly sat in the desk right next to Kiku.
Normally, the blond would sit next to his friend Toris, but he didn't think he would mind since he's always talking to that Polish chick as well. Or maybe it was a dude...? Nevermind that. It's time to strike up a conversation with Kiku!
Alfred cleared his throat as he took his stuff out of his bag, trying his best to act casual before actually making any moves. The teen glanced over at what his classmate was working on. It wasn't his Spanish packet at all. It was a drawing of what seemed like some type of dragon. It was very detailed, and Kiku seemed pretty focused on it.
"Psst... Hey!" Alfred said, attempting to gain the other's attention. It worked, and the raven-haired boy looked up at him. "I really like your drawing. It's hella cool, my dude." Alfred smiled, giving a thumbs up.
Kiku blushed, "Oh... thank you."
"You're Kiku Honda, right? I'm Alfred F. Jones! Nice to meet ya!" Alfred said, sticking out his hand for his classmate to shake. Kiku took it reluctantly. "Yes... Nice to meet you too."
"Looks like we're gonna be partners for that field trip next month. Are you excited? It's gonna my first time visiting Montauk. My parents actually had their wedding there. I heard it's very beautiful." Alfred said, using his best attempts at making small talk.
Kiku nodded, "Yes. I am excited as well." he said, then immediately went back to drawing.
'Geez, this kid isn't really much of a talker...' Alfred thought. He shrugged it off, hoping that Kiku would eventually come to his senses and open up a bit. "I like your accent, where're you from?"
The raven-haired boy's face flushed. His accent? Why? Was his English bad or something? Dear lord, he hopes not. "I'm... uh... Japan..." he stuttered.
Alfred's eyes widened, "You're Japanese? No way! That's awesome!" he shouted, gaining a few stares from fellow classmates. "Do you watch anime? Oh, who am I kidding, you definitely watch anime! My favorite has got to be My Hero Academia. But my brother's super basic and prefers Naruto and DBZ. How 'bout you?"
"Ah, yes. I do watch anime. My Hero Academia looks like a good show, but I haven't gotten past the first few episodes." Kiku admitted.
"Really? You should totally watch the rest. In my opinion, it's super cool, but superheroes are kinda like my thing, so y'know. So like, where in Japan are you from? Tokyo? Yokohama? Cause those are literally the only two places I know of." The blond stated matter-of-factly.
Kiku sighed, "No. I was not raised in the city. I grew up by the mountains in a small town, Karuizawa. My step-father decided to relocate the family here late March. After I ended my school year." he explained.
Alfred gasped, "Hold up, they end school in March over there!? That's so cool! I guess we're in the same boat then. My folks decided to move the fam down here after our school year ended. But that was only Ottawa. It's not like we needed to cross an entire ocean! You got any siblings?"
"Erm... Not exactly. It was just me, my step-father, and my mother coming in from Japan. But my mother is really good friends with this Chinese lady who lives down the road. All of her children act as my siblings almost."
"Huh, that's cool. I've only got my twin, Mattie. He's aight. So did you like know English before you came here or what? Cause honestly it's pretty cruel that they're forcing you to learn Spanish if you just started learning English."
