"BOOM!" When I ran out the door I bumped into someone and fell to the hard ground. "Ugh..." I can't get up, I am so light headed. I see his winter blue eyes staring back at me. "Oh god, are you alright!" He helps me up with his strong, caring, gentle hands.
I put my hand on my head. "Yeah, I am...fine..." "No, you are not. I can see it in your eyes, you just hit your head on the floor. Trust me, you are anything but fine." I make a slight smile. "Now, let's take you to the nurse." Is this what love feels like? Cause my heart is beating five times faster than it usually does. He makes me feel special.
"So, what's your name?" "Ashley, Ashley Summers." "Well Ashley, I am Wes, Wes Wilson. "Wes, well I am truly fine. Believe me." "You are not fine until the nurse says you are." "Fine." "Great." He smiles, and he makes me smile back.
We sit next to each other in the waiting room, and we talk about our classes, and what we do outside of school. He is charming, perfect, but me? No. Even if I tried he would never like me. He is all...that. And I am plain nothing...
"Ashley Summers, we are ready for you in the back." "I will come", Wes says. "Definitely", I say. I walk into the nurses offices and sit on the bed. "Okay, so what's the problem?" "I bumped into her and she hit her head on the floor." "Yea..." "But, I am fine."
"No, she is not." "Okay let's see where you hit your head." "Ouch, that's bad." "What does it look like?" "Purple and swollen." "See, you are not fine" , Wes says with a smile. "There's nothing I can do, but give you a ice pack, and put a bandage on your head." "Okay."
Wes and I walk out and head to our next class, science.
I place the ice pack gently on my head, and look up at Wes. He probably has a girlfriend. A guy like him is not going to be single, every girl is probably crushing on him. And I am one of those girls
"Ashley, I am sorry...I didn't mean to." "Wes, it is not your fault, I ran into you." We stay silent for a couple minutes, and then he looks at me in a weird way."Why are you looking at me like that?" "I just...never mind." We walk into our science class late, and hand in our late passes. "Okay, let's continue about cells..." An hour goes by, my classmates are bored. I am bored. "Ding, ding,DING!" I make sure not to run this time, but I am actually happy I ran into him. If I didn't I would not of got to know him.
Wes and I head out to lunch, and we talk about how boring science was...and how I fell asleep. We step into the cafeteria and I am looking for Victoria, but she is no where to be seen.
Wes and I walk up to the lunch ladies and order our food. "This food looks like what was for lunch on the last day of school, last year." I smile, I really don't know how to keep this conversation going.
I barely touch my lunch, just toss it around with my fork. It's not that I am not hungry, it's just that I miss my mom. "Ashley, are you okay? You look depressed." "What? Do we have to go to the nurse about that too? Huh?" I Immediately apologize for snapping at him for no reason. "Wes, I am sorry it's just that..." "What? It's okay you can tell me." If I say it, I know he will feel bad for me. That's exactly what I don't want to happen.
"Just tell me-" "Mymomdied." I say it so fast so he doesn't hear it. "Slow your horses, and say it slower." He smiles, but my face doesn't change."My...mom...d..i..e..d..." Before I know it his hands are around me, extending to my back. I knew this would happen, he feeling bad for me. I try my best not to cry, but a small, watery, droplet, slowly trembles down my face.
"Ashley, I am sorry for your loss.
What was her name?" I wiped a tear away, and more fall out, shattering to the floor. "Her name was Daisy Summers,
she was perfect."
I can't help but cry, I don't want to but I am a very sedimental person. I wasn't always, but since my life started falling apart, it has been this way.
"Ashley, would you like to maybe stop by to study? I know how you hate it but-" I take my chance and without hesitation I say yes. "Yes! I mean, cool. Sure." I don't want to sound to gleeful.
"Awesome, and after we can take a walk, to um...just hangout." I want to ask him if it is a date, but I can't. It's wrong.
"Okay, where do you live? I am not a stalker or anything." He laughs. "Near the lake, there's not many houses there. So, you can find it." "Okay, I will", I reply. "Well, I am finished with my...I can't call it lunch...but I am finished with it. What class you have?" "I don't know, let me check...
"Library, what about you?" "Media Studies, but I need to get my laptop from my locker. Want to come?" "Sure." When we get to the lockers, Wes's locker is jammed, so he needed to go to the janitors, to tell him.
"Okay, be right back." As I turn around, a group of girls are coming my way, all of them have this gothic look. I have a queasy feeling that they are mad at me. "Out of my way loser, I need to get by." First time, I don't answer. "MOVE! Can you not hear me!" I don't move, no way is she going to talk to me like that. She comes closer, and before I know it she punches me. I fall to the floor. "Haha, now she is out of our way." She walks forward and steps over me, and her friends follow.
Then Wes comes back and sees me on the ground. "Ashley!" His scream reminds me of my moms when she died. I remember, we were driving to visit my grandparents, and on the way there we were singing a song. We loved to sing. Then, someone cut my mom off, and the went off the road.
Some good things never last, everything is perfect. Then, everything is wrong. That's how life is, and now I realized that. "Ashley, are you okay?"
