Deucalion's POV
I hear my mate whisper "I'm sorry" making my eyes immediately flash to see what was wrong. She changes to her wolf form and when I see her running to Ennis and Derek who are right on the edge, I realise what she's about to do and my eyes go wide.

"No!" I roar as I watch helplessly. She saves Ennis but in doing so falls over the edge with Derek. The sickening noises made when they hit the escalator several floors below is deafening and with it I can feel my heart grow dead once more.

Gasping in pain, I sank to my knees, ears ringing as everything goes numb. All I can see in my minds eye is her falling over the edge. My mate, my Lupa. Distantly, I hear Kali yelling at Derek's pups to leave along with Scott who murmurs a distraught apology. Fenrir was whining softly next to me with his head resting on my leg.

The twins were comforting each other before they joined Kali and Ennis walking over to me. They stand there, not saying anything but were all silently mourning. That is until Fenrir perks up and barks before sprinting off towards the escalators to the floors below from what I can hear.

Frowning, I raise my head and stand with the help of my cane. Taking a shaky breath, I concentrate in order to hear what he did and hope swells in my chest when I hear the distant sound of a very faint heartbeat. Faint but it's there and that's what matters.

Only, whose was it? The bond wasn't there but I was praying that it was Lupa and she was merely too weak for me to feel her right now. If that Hale was still alive...well he wouldn't be for much longer.

Swallowing thickly, I follow Fenrir to the lower floors and hone in on Lupa's scent, trying not to get my hopes up. My eyes shift so I could see as my wolf and I inadvertently release a strangled gasp at the sight of my mate lying lifelessly at an odd angle across the escalator. Her eyes were closed and she was covered in scratches and marks.

My wolf inside was whimpering at seeing her like this as rage ran through my veins like fire noticing Derek's absence.

Slowly, I move over to her and sit down, pulling her gently into my arms before burying my face into her neck, not even acknowledging Fenrir who was licking her palm and whining.

Footsteps could be heard from above me as well as small gasps from the others. But I pay them no attention as all I can focus on is the overwhelming grief consumed my very soul seeing my other half like this. She looked so broken, so helpless that it broke me inside.

A loud, sorrowful howl ripped through my chest as I threw my head back in anguish. The rest of the pack joins in as tears leak from my eyes before I break off and rest my forehead against the side of her head. The noise echoes around us and travels throughout the whole of Beacon Hills until it fades.

Silence reigns over us all until a soft thud resonates in my ear, barely audible, which was quickly followed by another. Frowning, I concentrate and tilt my head.

Thud, thud.

Hope swells in my chest as I quickly pull back with wide, wet eyes. Fenrir barks happily and licks her face as we all watch in amazement as some marks begin to heal but not all.

"Lupa?" I whisper, waiting in suspense and breathe a sigh of relief when I see her chest rise and fall slowly. "She's not healing fast enough." I mutter with a worried frown when she shows no response other than a slight twitch of her fingers.

"I'll get the car." Ennis quickly volunteers before running off as the twins both come closer but stop when I give a warning growl, protective instincts flaring up because of her state as well as territorial instincts.
