Well, folks. We've reached the end of the line.
I'm going to be honest with you guys and say that I didn't think this was going to happen. Any of this. I wasn't planning on writing this story at first, instead intending to leave it at just an outline for anyone who was curious on my thoughts regarding a Digimon Frontier rewrite. After I outlined the first forty chapters or so, I realized that I had just fallen in love with this cast, and I knew what I wanted to do. I started writing this story on a whim, and I couldn't stop once I had started. I wasn't anticipating to finish it after I started either, figuring that motivation would die out after a few chapters and leave the project unfinished. I'm so glad that I wound up following through and completing it though. This has been an absolute joy these past eight months that I've been working on the story.
I'm sure that you're wondering what I mean when I say eight months. I'm posting this more than a year after the story was first released, so how can it have only been eight months? The truth is that I finished this story a long time ago, and it took me ages to post it because I wanted to continue following the weekly posting schedule of Sundays. I started working on this story in May of 2020, and this afterword is being written in January 2021. This story, between planning and completion, took me less than eight months.
And these eight months have been incredible. Quarantine has been difficult for everyone, but this story has offered me an amazing chance to step away from it all for a while to simply enjoy myself. It's been perfect for me, and I'm so glad that I decided to work on it. Just thinking about this story brings a smile to my face. It's amazing how much a piece of fiction can influence your life, you know?
I want to thank every single person who has read this far and come on this journey with me. The reception that this story has gotten astounds me, and I'm shocked that so many people have tuned in with the journey that I've been penning all this time. I didn't think that there would be any demand for something like this, but it really does make me happy to know that so many other people are enjoying the work that I've put into this story. I read every single comment that I get, and it makes me happy when people leave behind likes and favorites. It really does mean a lot to me that you've all read this far, and I'm super happy that I've been able to hopefully transport you to this new world.
I'm sure that some of you are wondering about if this story will be receiving a sequel or continuation of any kind in the future. The answer to that inquiry is that... I have no idea. Right now, I'm not planning on writing any sequels, but if I do, it won't come out until early 2022 at the very soonest.
Why is that? As of the time that this is releasing, I've been spending a few months with Echo, my Digimon Adventure Tri rewrite, and I want to see that through to the end before I dive into any continuation of this story. They're similar in how high-effort they are, and I wouldn't be able to work on a sequel to Frontiers Unexplored until after I finished writing the rest of Echo.
I would absolutely love to revisit this cast again in the future because of how much fun it was to work on them and their story. I'll have to see if I wind up writing more in this universe, but for the time being, it's up in the air. If I do publish another story, I'll post a new chapter here after this one after the story has been released with a preview of the first chapter of the sequel to act as an announcement of sorts. It'll be a long time if that does happen at all though, so there's no need to check here constantly for something like that. You'll know about it if/when it happens.
If you want to find other updates on this story, you can check out my Tumblr page. I'm completely open to asks about this story, and I'm actually planning on doing a retrospective on this story soon answering questions that people have about the finished product. I'll probably be recording it and talking through it, so if you want to talk to me about the story and you're here soon after the final chapter's release date, you can check me out on Tumblr (digitaldreams0801) and send me an ask for me to answer in the vocal retrospective. Even if you're reading this a bit late, I'd be happy to answer any of your questions in text form! I love hearing from you guys, and I would have a ball responding if any of you had extra inquiries for me.
I'm still in shock about the fact that I actually managed to finish this story, and it astounds me even more that people have read this far and enjoyed it as well. I don't think I can thank all of you enough for sticking with me throughout this journey. It means the world to me. I'm just a humble writer trying to make people smile, and this has been lots of fun for me. Thank you again for everything. I really do appreciate everything that you guys have given me throughout this story.
This is actually my first full-scale fan fiction if you can believe it. The closest thing that I have is my rewrite of Fire Emblem Fates, but that story is a beast of a different breed given that it's scripted where this is prose. Before this, I've only written one-shots for any given fandom, and it's amazing to me that people have read a large-scale story of this nature. I'm going to be working on Echo for a while yet, so this isn't going to be the last creation of mine written in this way. Echo is incredibly similar to Frontiers Unexplored, and the first handful of chapters is already out if you're looking for another long story to sink your teeth into. Much like Frontiers Unexplored, it receives weekly updates, though new chapters release on Friday there.
If you want to check out other works of mine, I have an Ace Attorney story with original characters by the name of Morix, and it already has three completed books. If you're looking something a bit more action-based, I have two fantasy series, Alitia and Galaxy of Hyperion, that also have multiple volumes already with new content coming out for quite some time to come. I already mentioned that I have fan fiction such as the Fire Emblem Fates rewrite, but there's also Fódlan Alternative, an alternate universe of Fire Emblem Three Houses with original characters. Both of them can be read without prior knowledge of the source material, so you can check them out if you'd like to continue supporting me and my writing. I have other pieces posted on my profile as well, and you can find the full collection on my Archive of Our Own piece regarding everything I've written in the past few years or so (digitaldreams). If you want updates regarding my future posts, you can check me out on Twitter too (__digitaldreams) where I make announcements each time I update a story of mine.
Regardless of what you do from here, thank you again for reading this far and following me on this journey. I can't thank you enough for everything that you guys have done for me throughout this story, something that I once thought would be a novel only enjoyed by me. Thank you all so much for everything, and I hope that we'll see each other again one day, whether it be by sequel or some other method. I can't emphasize enough how incredible this story has been for me to write, and I hope that you enjoyed it even a fraction as much as I did.
For one last time, I hope you have enjoyed this story. I appreciate hearing from each of you, and I read every bit of feedback that I get. I hope the future treats you well, and I also hope you're having a great day.
May we meet again when the endless tale continues.
A final time,
Digital
