Bright and early the next morning, Emma was standing in the kitchen making breakfast before she would head out for the day. Henry had stayed the night with Regina and wouldn't be back with her until he was done with school for the day, which gave her the entire day to investigate the portal and the swan engraving she found at the scene.

A groggy groan emerged from the bedroom and was followed by a tired man walking out of the room.

"Good morning!" She piped to Killian.

He looked at her like she was crazy. "Do you even bloody know how early it is? The sun's barely risen." He collapsed into a chair. "How are you awake?"

Emma, with her back to him, held up her coffee cup while she stirred the eggs in the pan. "Caffeine for a long day and habit. Would you care for some?"

"Tried that vile liquid, not a fan." He said with distaste.

"Yeah, it takes some getting used to." She reached up to grab two plates and split the eggs and sausage, handing him a plate.

"Thank you, love." He looked at her longingly as she sat down. "So, what are you doing today?"

"I have some work to do at the station and I need to talk to Gold, figure out how to find the person from the portal. And maybe see if he can tell me something about that." She nodded towards the wood block on the table near her.

"Care for some company?" He inquired with a smile.

"Sure, now eat up, we've got a long day ahead."

The two shoveled in their food quickly. Emma then went to the sink, scrapping out the pans she used to cook. She filled the dishes into the dishwasher and shut it, starting it. After both got dressed and performed their essential morning duties, they were ready to go have a busy day solving the portal mystery.

"Here you are." Killian handed over Emma's red leather jacket to her while he pulled his own black jacket out of the main closet near the door.

"Thank you." She followed him out the door and locked the door to the apartment.

When the two exited the building, they walked into a brisk but nice sunny street. The streets were almost empty as everyone was still at home getting ready for work or school. Before visiting Gold, Emma wanted to stop at the station to look through some paperwork since she knew that Gold wouldn't be in his shop yet. She still had a few boxes left to organize anyways from the remodeling that went on at the station.

"Everything is updated, I see." Killian said immediately as he walked into the station.

"All up-to-date, which means I'll work much faster."

"I don't know how you know how to work these contraptions, how does so much power and knowledge go into such a skinny thing?" He looked at the thin computer at her desk in bewilderment, moving his thumb next to it to show how it was just shy of being as wide as his thumb.

"Well, I have years of experience with 'things' like these. Maybe I'll show you how to work them soon-" She paused, "And I'll also teach you how to drive a car." She looked up at him with a smirk.

"And what if I deny?" He cocked his eyebrow to tease.

"Oh come on, you gotta learn something about this world. The best technology you had where you came from was some sort of new casement that you could put a candle in to light up rooms. This stuff is revolutionary where you come from."

"You came from a place like that as well, love. Don't forget that. And hey, in my defense, I've gotten quite handy with the talking phone you gave to me." He smirked, his excessive pride gleaming.
