I'm not a vampire. Nor am I a wolf, nor a witch nor a fairy. So I still don't quite fit into my fangs and wands category. Neither have I any fangs nor can I yield a wand.
And still I remain in this school. Indeed there is some power within me, Dominic can testify to that. But what power if no one knows what it is.
Harold has ordered me back to school. I tried to protest but he could hear nothing of me lounging in my room all day. I did miss a couple of weeks. Plus who gets into a new school right before the final exams. The academics aren't that bad. I can catch up, I'm smart like that.
What is giving me a hard time are the sports. I've never been a sports person, but I've survived. In this school, there's no surviving. Everyone has an enhanced something. Enhanced speed, enhanced strength, enhanced hearing, enhanced sight. So naturally everything is made more difficult. They are pushed harder, compete without mercy, knowing fully well the other can take it. And what do I have? Nothing. It kind of makes all that pain I felt not worth it. I'm just as human as can be and yet I'm not allowed that title. Because I'm dead. Because of Dominic.
I close the history book angrily and it echos throughout the common area. Now I hate even studying.
"Hey there ordinary girl. How are you liking our supernatural school full of extraordinary kids." Stacy sits opposite me and takes this opportunity to torment me.
I'm in no mood for this. I have get out of here. But it can't look like I'm running away from her. "I was enjoying it just fine you know, until now."
My escape comes in form of Allison and I've never been so pleased to see a fairy.
"Hey Lena, I'm glad I found you. Rose is looking for you. Come with me."
"Sure." I say already packing my books in my bag. Dominic kind of stole all my belongings from my parents and brought them to me. Harold's orders, so I don't owe him anything. "I'd like to stay and chat but..." I let the sentence hang as I stand up to go after Allison. Stacy just smiles tightly.
Allison leads me to Rose's office, the godmother's office.
"Oh, hie darling, you are here. I've been waiting for you." Rose smiles brightly at me as I enter. She has a wooden box on her desk.
"Hello fairy godmother." She beams at hearing me call her that.
"I've prepared something for you." The box is opened to reveal a stick, or a piece of wood or... Wait is that a wand?
She's giving me a wand? I walk excitedly towards it and pick it up. I already feel powerful holding a wand in my hands.
"Tell me what do I have to do?"
"Close your eyes." I comply. "Now I want you to feel all the power hidden inside you. Summon it to the surface, feel it rise to the surface. Remember the wand is not the source of your power but just a channel. A way to control it."
I feel something, I feel it coming. I'm busy trying to concentrate on Rose's words when Allison's scream startles me.
I open my eyes to realise the wand is on fire. I throw it to the ground with a scream as well which makes it worse because the floor is carpeted.
Rose seems to be in a bit of a shock herself but she somehow manages to have enough composure to douse the fire with the power of her wand.
"I don't understand, that was..."
"Your best wand?" Stacy finishes for her from the doorway. "There's nothing to understand really. It's just a matter of giving chicken feed to an eagle or fairy wings to a dragon. You do get my point right."
