Lena felt the cold air running through her hair and around her body. She turned her head to the ground, looking at the big street underneath coming closer with every second. It was only a few second, but it felt like minutes. Long minutes, to think about all the things she loved and how fast all of it could end. And that's what she did.
Turning her head up again, she saw the man pointing his gun at her. She prayed that Supergirl would be on her way. While looking at the man she tried to see his face, but it was too dark. Then he shot.
Lena saw the bullet getting closer her, not being able to move or change it. She breathed in and closed her eyes. Her complete body was filled with adrenaline, but she was unable to use it.
When the bullet hit her left shoulder she screamed out, but it was too quiet to be heard by anyone. The pain shot through her body. She was getting numb by it, she felt herself drift away. As she opened her eyes one last time, she saw the blue and red sign of the house of EL.

It was dark around her, when Lena woke up. The only light came from a screen on the left side of the bed she was laying in. She tried to sit up, but failed and groaned in pain. She glanced over at her shoulder. There was a bandage around it.
Lena looked around in the room as her eyes had gotten used to the dim light. The wall about three yards to her left was black with some metallic stripes, designed like the walls in the DEO. That was probably where she was. She saw a door at the left end of the wall five yards in front of her. Next to the screen stood a chair. The room was empty and quiet, the only noise was a steady beep sound coming from the screen, showing Lena's heartbeat.
Lena lifted her right arm and reached out for the blanket at the end of the bed. In the same second, the door opened and a young man walked in. When he saw that Lena was awake, he lifted a walkie talkie and spoke into the speaker. "Miss Luthor is awake." He walked over to her bed and typed something into the keyboard underneath the screen.
A few seconds later, Alex, the sister of her best friend, walked into the room. She wore, just like the young man next to Lena, the DEO suit. She winked him and he left the room. Then she walked over to Lena's bed and sat down on the side.
"How are you feeling?" Alex asked, while she lifted something from under Lena's bed and filled it into a syringe.
"I'm fin-" Lena tried to sit up again and groaned in pain when she remember her injured shoulder. "It hurts." She said instead.
Alex nodded. "And it will for some time. You got shot." She pricked the syringe into Lena's inner elbow. Lena watched the liquid slowly enter her body. "Lena." Alex said, pulling the syringe out of her. "Supergirl couldn't have saved you from the bullet. She reacted directly when you called, but she was at the other end of the city and injured. There was no way she could have changed what happened. She-"
"I know." Lena interrupted Alex. "I know she did her best to save me." Lena took a deep breath and tried to sit up, fighting against the pain in her shoulder and Alex who was trying to lay her down again.
"When I fell, I realized something. I realized that she really does try to help anyone. I realized that I couldn't and can't blame her for not being perfect. Because she has powers which are not from this earth, but she can't be everywhere, everyday. I get that now. Although she is from another planet, she is kind of human too. And she has her own life out there, risking it and everything else she loves everyday to save the world. She has her own friends and I realized that she is only keeping her identity from us because she wants to protect the ones who are more important than anything to her in her life. She could kill all of us in a second, but she doesn't. Her heart is bigger than all the hate out there. And that makes her a hero. Not her powers but her decision to stand up every day to save the world. To change the world. Into a better place."
Alex smiled. "This might sound strange but I think whoever pushed you over the railing up there kinda made your life better." Lena grinned back at her softly.
"I wanna make peace again. When I fell down there, I could feel the whole world stop. I thought about everything I had and everything I should have done and should have said in my life. And I wanna start and change this now. I wanna be ready and happy when I die. Even if dying isn't a pretty nice thing, I want to be able to think back and say to myself, thank god that you did this, Lena. It changed your life and who knows where you would be if you haven't done it."
"Well, why don't you say that to the one that gave you a second chance." Alex stood up and took a step to the side. In the doorway, there stood Supergirl. She smiled as she walked over to Lena's bed. Alex nodded to her and left the room.
"How are you?" Supergirl sat down on the chair next to Lena's bed, sure to keep an acceptable distance.
"Better than when the bullet hit me." Lena said, looking over to the screen, watching her results. Supergirl followed her gaze and nodded to herself. "Yeah, that's true. Your results are okay. Not good, but on a good way."
Lena glanced back at Supergirl. The hero looked at her with her blue and caring eyes. Lena never noticed how beautiful these eyes where. They looked like her best friends eyes.
"Oh shit!" Lena said, quickly sitting up. "I've got an appointment with Kara!"
"Lena. Calm down." Supergirl said, carefully placing a hand on her thigh. "This appointment is two days ago. I checked your calendar and told Kara what happened."
"Two days?" Lena looked shocked. She would have been mad that Supergirl went through her stuff but she knew better now. "Oh my god, I was asleep that long?"
"First you were unconscious, but after a few hours you drifted into a deep sleep I guess. It seemed like you really needed that sleep. I also cancelled your other meetings and told your assistant that you wouldn't work for some days, but she shouldn't worry because you'll come back." Lena looked up in Supergirl's caring eyes. The woman really only helped, no bad thoughts intended. She gulped and nodded. "Thank you. That was very kind of you." Supergirl nodded and smiled.
"Has Kara been here?" Lena asked hopefully.
"Yes. She spend a lot of time here next to your bed. She is working at the moment."
Lena nodded and smiled wide. Supergirl lifted her hand from Lena's thigh.
"Oh, and you're allowed to leave, if you don't want to stay here. But before you make that decision, you should remember that we have the best painkiller." Lena smiled at that comment. Supergirl grinned back softly. "And it is quiet and save here. But you know that."
Lena nodded. She yawned and looked at Supergirl. "I would stay here for while if you don't mind. And I would like to have a coffee, please?"
Supergirl smiled in awe. "I'm sorry. It's not like we don't have coffee or I don't want you to get any coffee, but the coffee mixed up with the painkiller would make your pain only worse. So I won't give you any coffee and you shouldn't get some by yourself. It's only to make it easier to bear for you."
Lena smiled and nodded. She laid back down, slowly closing her eyes. "Wake me up when Kara visits." She whispered and fell asleep.
Supergirl smiled, lend forward and placed a careful kiss on Lena's forehead. "We already did."
